A visible sign of progress is now on display in Boston's Longwood Medical Area.

Earlier this spring, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center officially began the construction process for the region's only dedicated adult inpatient cancer hospital. Recent images from the project site offer a glimpse of what is taking shape through the Dana-Farber Beth Israel Deaconess Cancer Collaboration.

First announced in 2023, the new facility will include 300 inpatient beds and approximately 450,000 square feet of clinical space across 10 floors. Scheduled to open in 2031, the hospital will expand inpatient oncology capacity while supporting coordinated care across Dana-Farber, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians.

The project represents a significant long-term investment in oncology infrastructure at one of the nation's leading cancer centers.

One of the benefits of being part of a professional community is seeing familiar faces continue to show up in different places and conversations throughout the year.

Over the past several months, ACE Professional Committee member Frantz Berthaud, MPH, FACHE, has been one of those familiar faces. From serving on a panel at the inaugural Becker's Healthcare Oncology Executive Summit discussing the growing challenge of early-onset cancer to helping strengthen partnerships with the American Cancer Society in El Paso, his work reflects a commitment to both the strategic and community dimensions of cancer care.

Temple Health โ€“ Northeastern Campus was recently recognized with a 2025 Press Ganey Human Experience Guardian of Excellence Awardยฎ, placing its Outpatient Oncology team among the top 5 percent of healthcare providers for outpatient oncology care. The program is also one of only three outpatient oncology units in the United States to receive this distinction.

Temple Health attributed the achievement to the collaborative efforts of nurses, physicians, laboratory services, imaging, scheduling, front office teams, and support staff whose collective efforts help shape the patient experience every day.

Spending time sharing ideas, recognizing teams, and learning from peers across oncology is work that continues well beyond any single meeting or event.

Over the past month, ACE board members shared moments from their organizations and professional circles that reflected the many layers of cancer care leadership today โ€” from oncology nursing recognition and patient-centered program development to collaboration with national leaders across the field.

These environments may look different from one institution to another, but each depends on people willing to invest deeply in both the work and the relationships surrounding it. ๐Ÿ“ฒ https://bit.ly/4iQ2vAV

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น Why Florence? Why Now?

Florence continues to serve as a meeting point for medicine, research, culture, and international collaboration.

This year alone, the region has helped host important conversations surrounding advanced breast cancer therapies, physician-scientist development, and the future of integrated cancer care.

As an ESMO - European Society for Medical Oncology Accredited Designated Centre hub, Florence represents a healthcare ecosystem shaped by both clinical innovation and deeply human-centered care.

This November 1โ€“3, the International Oncology Leadership Conference - IOLC will bring together oncology leaders across clinical, operational, and administrative roles for an intimate international exchange focused on the evolving realities of cancer care delivery worldwide.

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ "The important collaboration provided by the IOLC meetings has led to exciting opportunities... Leveraging connections made at IOLC, we are initiating expansion of our accreditation system into international sites."โ€” Timothy W. Mullett, MD, MBA, FACS (Medical Director, UK Markey Cancer Center Network Development)

A limited number of Gold, Silver, and Bronze partnerships are available for organizations looking to engage directly with this international community of oncology leaders. Link below to view the 2026 Sponsorship Opportunities: ๐Ÿ“ฒ https://bit.ly/3WQt6nP

The program connects early-career oncology administrators with experienced leaders across academic and community cancer settings, offering direct exposure to operational leadership, mentorship, and project-based learning throughout the year.

Earlier this year, Toral Patel (pictured first), reflected on her experience:

๐Ÿ”น โ€œI had the honor of being an ACE fellow last year and had the opportunity to speak at the conference this year. I am so grateful for the experience and highly encourage other oncology leaders to lean into this opportunity.โ€

She also recognized the mentorship and support of Alyssia Crews and Shardรฉe Ogonor (not pictured) throughout the fellowship experience.

If someone in your network would benefit from this opportunity, tag them below or share this post with a colleague.

The Association of Cancer Executives Board of Directors recently gathered in Nashville for the annual Board Retreat, held in preparation for at the Grand Hyatt Nashville.

While reflecting on the success and momentum of , the retreat also marked an important opportunity to begin shaping priorities and conversations for next yearโ€™s Annual Meeting.

During their time in Nashville, the Board visited the Grand Ole Opry and learned about the meaning behind โ€œstepping into the circleโ€ โ€” a tradition rooted in trust, leadership, and connection. The experience served as a meaningful reminder of the responsibility oncology leaders share in supporting one another, advancing cancer programs, and improving outcomes for the patients and communities they serve.

We are grateful to the ACE leadership and Board members whose time, collaboration, and continued dedication help move the organization and the field forward.
