HEF brings our public schools & generous community together to promote and invest in programs & initiatives that have the greatest impact on student learning, and that help equitably prepare all of our K-12 students for college, career, and citizenship. HEF Key Values:
• Every Child Deserves An Excellent Public Education
HEF’s volunteer Board of Directors come from all walks of life, but share a
common goal: they believe all the students of Healdsburg’s K-12 public schools deserve an excellent public education.
• HEF Funds Direct Student Needs
HEF supports initiatives that directly benefit Healdsburg public school students. HEF serves as a student advocate by directing funds to programs that enable students to reach their highest potential.
• The Healdsburg Public Schools Need our Support
The funding needed to provide the vital educational programming our students need far exceeds our schools’ current budget. In 2010, California spending per student ranked 49th out of 50 states. The Healdsburg Unified School District (HUSD) is currently experiencing unprecedented cuts in funding. Over $2 million, approximately 12% of the HUSD’s $16.5 million budget is being cut. We can no longer rely solely on public funding to provide an adequate or stable source of funding for our local schools.
• Healdsburg Public Schools are Community Funded Schools
No longer receiving per-pupil (average daily attendance) funding, our public schools are funded primarily through a portion of local property taxes, also known as “basic aid funding”. With these “basic aid” funds and through the generosity of our community, our schools are indeed locally funded.
• Strong Schools, Strong Community
When the entire community supports education, student achievement increases, schools improve, and our society benefits – through an educated labor pool, enhanced property values, and informed citizenry.
