World Faiths Development Dialogue

World Faiths Development Dialogue World Faiths Development Dialogue (WFDD) is a not-for-profit organization working at the intersection of religion and global development.

WFDD has two central objectives: to reinforce, underscore, and publicize the synergies and common purpose of religions and development institutions addressing poverty; and to explore issues on which there is little consensus and where common ground is unclear among different faith traditions, within faiths, and between faiths and development institutions. At the heart of WFDD's vision is an effort

to bring voices and experience from poor communities more forcefully into development thinking at all levels, by facilitating a more active participation by faith communities in the strategic reflection processes on which development programs are based. WFDD supports forward-thinking dialogue around action-oriented partnerships between faith-inspired and "secular" development institutions - such as the Tony Blair Faith Foundation, the Center for Interfaith Action on Global Poverty, and the Berkley Center's program on Religion and Development - and supports some of the analytical work necessary to assess the efficacy of these partnerships.

Leadership roles are never easy, but being a woman leader has its own special obstacles, distortions, and double binds. As a woman leading a college that empowered women, I was especially intent on being thoughtful about how I used the power of the office. The words here were part of my inaugural address at the outset of my presidency in 1993, and I made an effort to live into them over the 14 years. I wasn’t always successful.

So I was right there with America Ferrera during her impassioned speech in the recent movie, Barbie, as she bore witness to the ongoing barrage of impossible social expectations on women.
