BINGO IS BACK AT RWJCC!

After our summer break, Bingo returns to the Robert W. Johnson Community Center on Tuesday, September 15.

Today we closed the gates on the 2026 pool season at the Robert W. Johnson Community Center.

It was a short season, but an important one.

We opened later than we hoped, and we knew this summer would be about learning, rebuilding, and getting the pool back into the community.

Today gave us a glimpse of what we’re building toward.

Kids filled the pool. Mothers and daughters spent the afternoon together. Three generations gathered around the baby pool. Neighbors stopped by to say hello. And the Road Knights Car Club of Maryland Hagerstown joined us with their classic cars and sponsored free admission for our first 40 children.

Those are the moments we wanted to see when we worked to reopen this pool.

Thank you to our lifeguards, staff, volunteers, partners, donors, families, and neighbors who helped us through this first season back.

We learned a lot. There’s plenty of work ahead.

But we also saw the possibilities.

Now we get to build on it.

Thank you for spending part of your summer with us. We’re already looking forward to what 2027 brings. 💙

As we announced last week, we’re closing out the summer with a special Saturday at the Robert W. Johnson Community Center.

Thanks to the Road Knights, the FIRST 40 KIDS swim FREE!

We need volunteers tomorrow!

Our Pantry To-Go food distribution is Friday, August 28, and we could use some extra hands to help us get ready and serve our community.

Volunteer prep begins at 8:00 AM at the Robert W. Johnson Community Center.

Help is needed with:
• Unloading and organizing food
• Packing and preparing items
• Setting up for distribution
• Assisting during the event

Food distribution begins at 11:00 AM.

If you’re available tomorrow morning, come out and lend a hand. Even an hour of your time helps.

IMPORTANT TIME CHANGE: We will begin at 11:00 AM, one hour later than our normal start time.

Free food distribution will continue until supplies last.

This past Saturday, Deacon Woodson returned to the Robert W. Johnson Community Center, this time to enjoy the pool.

For several years, he served as our maintenance man, quietly caring for the building and keeping things running. He also contributed his time and energy to our food distributions, helping us serve families throughout the community.

People like Deacon Woodson are an important part of the Center’s story. His work, service, and commitment helped sustain this place through many seasons.

After spending years taking care of the Center, it was good to see him back enjoying the results.

A beautiful legacy moment at the pool.

On Friday, Mrs. Tish Johnson visited the Robert W. Johnson Community Center pool with her great-grandchildren.

The Center bears the name of her late husband, Robert W. Johnson, a Tuskegee Airman, educator, coach, and devoted community leader. He spent his life creating opportunities for young people.

Now, another generation of his own family gets to enjoy this restored community space and make memories of their own.

This is why preserving places like the Robert W. Johnson Community Center matters. One generation’s service continues to shape the lives of those who follow.

We’re closing the 2026 pool season with free swimming and classic cars!

On Saturday, August 29, the Road Knights Car Club of Maryland Hagerstown will cover admission for the first 40 children ages 5–17 at RWJCC. Children 4 and younger are already free.

The Road Knights will arrive at 11:30 a.m. with five cars on display before the pool opens at noon.

Thank you to John “JR” Rollins and the Road Knights for investing $200 to give local children one more day of summer fun.

Come early and help us close out a memorable first season!

350 backpacks are now in the hands of local students!

Over three days, Toys for Youth and Pastor George Ukachukwu of Christ Embassy Church’s Inner City Mission distributed school supplies at the Robert W. Johnson Community Center.

Thank you to Anthony Holmes for organizing the giveaway and to AC&T, Children In Need, Inc., Elks Lodge #278, and everyone who volunteered.
