I was going to wait until tomorrow to share this, but mentally and emotionally, I think I need to end today with this. So that maybe I can wake up tomorrow not feeling quite so defeated.

Earlier today, I made the gut-wrenching decision to let Lady Gray go.

Freedom from a body that had been worn down by years of neglect and suffering.

And perhaps even more importantly, freedom from the mental prison that comes when a powerful dog like her spends her life isolated, neglected, unsocialized, and ultimately becomes dangerous because of everything she’s endured.

This isn’t the story I hoped to write for her.

Hell, this isn’t the story I’d EVER want to write for ANY dog.

But as the incredible doctor who cared for Lady Gray these past two days said to me, “WE aren’t the ones who failed her.”

And she’s right.

Lady Gray was failed by so many.

Her owner.
Neighbors.
Animal Control.
Passersby.
Society.

So. Many. People.

And in the end, it took a handful of good Samaritans, a rescue group, and an incredible team of veterinarians and staff to finally give this girl what she deserved.

Safety. Compassion. Dignity.

And ultimately, peace.

I wish I could have given her more. God, I wish I could have rewritten her entire story.

But at least we were there for the ending.

And that ending mattered.

Beautiful girl. Lady Gray.

You mattered.
You STILL matter.
And you always will.

Run free, sweet girl.

Run like the powerful, beautiful, majestic girl I know you were always meant to be. 🩶

🐾 MEET BOBO! 🐾

7 months old, ridiculously sweet, and officially looking for his FOREVER HOME! 💙

Bobo is a handsome Lab mix who has spent the last month in foster care, and his foster family has nothing but wonderful things to say about him!

This sweet boy LOVES cuddles, gets along great with other dogs, and would absolutely thrive with a family who has kids to run around and play with! 🥹

He dreams of a big fenced-in backyard where he can stretch those puppy legs, play his heart out, and then come inside for some serious snuggle time.

📢 PSA for everyone out there even THINKING about adopting a rescue dog…

BE. PATIENT.

Seriously. Why are you rushing a dog to immediately conform to YOU and YOUR life?!?!

You bring a dog into a completely unfamiliar environment, with unfamiliar people, unfamiliar smells, unfamiliar routines, and somehow expect them to just KNOW how to behave?!

Some of these dogs have spent months or YEARS in survival mode. Some have never lived inside a home. Some have never known kindness, consistency, or what it feels like to be safe.

And you expect them to figure it all out in 48 hours?!

COME ON, PEOPLE.

They might have accidents.
They might bark.
They might hide.
They might chew something.
They might not immediately love you.

THAT DOESN’T MAKE THEM A BAD DOG.

It makes them a dog who’s trying to figure out an entirely new world.

Adoption isn’t about finding a perfectly programmed dog who immediately fits into your picture-perfect life.

It’s about making a commitment to an animal and giving them the TIME, PATIENCE, and GRACE they deserve.

Stop expecting perfection from an animal who doesn’t even understand what’s happening yet.

You chose to adopt them. They didn’t choose to have their entire world turned upside down.

Give them a freaking chance.

And if you’re not prepared to do that, maybe you’re not prepared to adopt a rescue dog.

🐾 Sincerely, a very tired rescue person who wishes more people understood this.

Just wanting to be very honest about what we’re going through with this girl…

It’s not great. 😞

I’m sad. But more than anything, I’m angry. Angry that this beautiful girl has been failed for what appears to be a very, very long time.

No matter how much time we get with her, we can never undo what her body has endured. And mentally, I truly don’t know if she’ll ever recover.

But I have to focus on what matters right now.

She’s safe.
She’s resting.
She’s comfortable.
And she is loved.

In the past 18 hours, she has likely received more compassion and care than she has in a very long time.

And I have to find peace in that.

Because no matter the outcome, SHE MATTERS.

To me.
To the incredible people at Upstate Vet.
And I hope to you, too.

I’ve given her a name.

Lady Gray. 🩶

She’s a majestic beast.
I look at her and imagine what she once was.
Running, playing, chasing a ball. I can only hope that somewhere along the way, someone loved her the way she deserved.

I wish I could give her those years back.

But I can give her today. And hopefully tomorrow.

Lady Gray has a name. She now has a family. She belongs to somebody.

She’s officially a Lucky Pup. And whether we get years, months, weeks, or just days, she will know she matters.

She will never be failed again. 🩶
