Pronouns can be tricky! Maybe it’s your first time using they/them to refer to a single person, or maybe a loved one is transitioning and wants to use a pronoun that affirms their gender identity—but is new to you. Whatever the case may be, there are lots of ways to learn, honor, and use someone’s pronouns. Here are a few to get your started:

• Try a role play with someone (who is NOT your LGBTQ+ loved one) to help you understand what it feels like to be misgendered.
• Write a story about your loved one using their affirmed name and pronouns.
• Make a gender jar and put $1.00 in the jar every time you make a mistake.

The Q***r Choir officially begins meeting Sunday, August 16th and one of our first performance pieces is the Shia LaBeouf song (linked below)!

JEDI’s Q***r Choir is a safe space for the LGBTQ+ community and their allies to come together and use their voices to advocate for their love and lives.
The Q***r Choir is 18+ and meets First and Third Sundays at 2 PM (with occasional fifth Sunday meetings when needed). Doors open at 1:45 PM.
Participate once a year or every meeting, it's completely up to you! We have been given our space for free and want to be up front that the rehearsals take place within a church. It is a church run by LGBTQ+ individuals and we trust the space implicitly. If it is a problem for you please do reach out - we are tracking the balance between supporting the community and figuring out how to run an ensemble with few resources. The rehearsals take place at First Congregational Church in Greeley: 2101 16th street, Greeley, CO 80631. No auditions are required - this is a community first space. Feel free to just show up or email us if you have any questions or concerns. Voice parts are by choice in whatever octave singers feel comfortable in. Part are more based on difficulty than octave. Singers are welcome to change voice parts/octaves as often as they'd like.
The choir will have opportunities for performances but you are not required to perform to participate in the choir. Every year we have 2 seasons: Pride season from January to July with performances in June and July and Fall season from August to January with performances for Thanksgiving, Winter Holidays, and Q***r in the New Year. When the K*K tried to block Gay people from entering Dollywood, Dolly Parton had one answer.

“Am I going to say they’re not welcome here? Of course not.”

In 1991, when thousands of Gay men were dying of AIDS and country music barely acknowledged we existed, Dolly released one of the earliest country songs to say the word “gay.”

“Some are preachers, some are gay… But not a one is turned away when it’s family.”

Years later, when transgender musician Our Lady J needed surgery her insurance wouldn’t cover. She organized a benefit to raise the money herself.

When Dolly was asked to write a song for Transamerica, a movie about a transgender woman fighting to finally live as herself, she watched an unfinished version of the film.

She woke up the next morning and wrote “Travelin’ Thru.” It earned her an Oscar nomination.

And sometimes Dolly’s love was simply joyful…

She once secretly entered a Dolly Parton look-alike contest at a gay bar filled with drag queens.

She made her hair bigger. Her makeup heavier. Her beauty mark darker.

Nobody recognized her.

Dolly Parton lost.

In 2023, when Tennessee passed laws targeting trans people and drag performers, Dolly was asked what she thought.

She mentioned the Gay, le***an and trans people in her own family and life.

“I know and love them all, and I do not judge.”

She said she had watched how deeply it hurt them to be attacked simply for being who they were.

“They cannot help that any more than I can help being Dolly Parton.”

U.S. District Judge David Hittner strikes down a 2023 state law in Texas that sought to restrict drag shows, saying the measure improperly restricted speech, and violated the First Amendment of the Constitution.

The ruling prevents state Attorney General Ken Paxton, who is running for the Senate, from enforcing the law and denies his motion for a new trial.

The state law would fine business owners who were found to be in violation up to $10,000 for hosting events, while performers could be charged with a Class A misdemeanor, which could result in up to one year of jail time.

In the ruling, Hittner also had advice for those who found drag shows "offensive," saying "the solution is relatively simple ... just don’t go,” he wrote.

Beloved by q***r communities for decades—most memorably for his role as Frank-n-Furter, the sweet transvestite, from Tr*******al, Transylvania! in The Rocky Horror Picture Show—Tim Curry has been a light in the darkness of everybody's life.

The recipient of an Emmy Award, and nominated for Tony Awards, Olivier Awards, a Grammy, and more, Tim Curry had a prolific career that spanned Broadway, the West End, small-screen and big-screen roles, and albums that had us all “...do the rock.”

Rest in peace, Tim Curry.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Dolly Parton, a beloved icon and a fierce, outspoken ally of the LGBTQ+ community for decades. Her boundless love for others and her philanthropic spirit led to the creation of the Imagination Library, a program that gifted over 300 million books to children around the world.
