Meals on Wheels of Greeley

October has two weeks left, and so does Cartober.
If there's a car, truck, motorcycle, RV or boat sitting in your driveway that you keep meaning to deal with, now's the time. Donate it through Cartober and its value goes toward hot meals and daily wellness checks for homebound neighbors across Weld County. Pick up is free, and it doesn'thave to run.
It's the rare chore that ends with a neighbor getting dinner.

Our volunteers aren’t nurses, and they’re not there to take anyone’s blood pressure. But in the minute or two they spend at the door, they notice things nobody else might.

A meal from yesterday that hasn’t been touched. Mail stacking up on the porch. A neighbor who’s usually chatty and today barely says a word.

Our newest blog walks through what a Meals on Wheels check-in really catches, and what happens when something seems off. If you have a parent or loved one living alone in Weld County, it’s worth five minutes of your time.

Somewhere in Platteville, Fort Lupton and Mead, a neighbor is waiting for a knock this week. We just need someone standing on the other side of the door. Our routes in these three towns are short on drivers, and the need is very specific:
Platteville: Mondays
Fort Lupton: Fridays
Mead: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays
You pick up hot meals, drive a route close to home, and spend a few mintues at each door checking in on how your neighbor is doing. Routes run between 10:30 am and 12:30 pm, so it fits into a lunch hour or a slow morning.
Every route needs a neighbor. Could it be you?

Every weekday, a knock on a door in Weld County means more than lunch. It means someone noticed the porch light that burned out, the mail that piled up, and the neighbor inside who hasn’t talked to anyone since yesterday.

If driving a route doesn’t fit your schedule, you can still keep those weekday knocks coming. The Lunch Bunch is our new community of monthly donors, and smaller gifts that repeat every month add up to steady support all year long.

This October, we’re gathering 20 founding members. The first few seats are already filled. Will you take the next one?

Show up every month so we can show up every day.

Meatloaf and cheesy mashed potatoes on a Wednesday in October. That’s the kind of dinner that makes a house feel warm before you even sit down.

Still, the best part of every delivery isn’t on the plate. It’s the volunteer at the door who knows your name, asks how your week is going, and notices when something seems off.

For some of the neighbors we serve, that knock is the one they look forward to all day. Want to be the one knocking? Sign up to deliver at: https://mealsonwheelsgreeley.com/volunteer/

That car in your driveway that hasn’t moved since summer? It could be doing a lot more good than collecting leaves.

This October, Meals on Wheels of Greeley and Weld County is part of Cartober. You can donate a car, truck, motorcycle, RV, or even a boat, running or not, and pickup is free. Its value goes toward hot meals and daily check-ins for homebound neighbors across Weld County.

You get your driveway back, and a neighbor gets a knock on the door. That’s a pretty good trade.

We recently shared some good news with our email family: the Lunch Bunch just welcomed its first new founding member of the season.

Here’s what that means in real life. Every month from now on, one neighbor’s gift will help carry a hot meal and a friendly check-in to someone’s door, without anyone having to ask twice.

We still have seats open for founding members, and we’d love to save one for you before October 31.

Think back for a second. When was the last time a whole day went by and nobody knocked on your door? No phone call, no neighbor waving from the driveway, nobody asking how you slept.

For most of us, that’s hard to remember. For some homebound neighbors here in Weld County, it was yesterday, and it will probably be tomorrow too.

The quiet is the part nobody sees. It creeps in slowly, and when the fridge is getting low as well, a single afternoon can feel endless.

All this month, we’re talking about who’s on the other side of those doors. Follow along, because you might know more of them than you think.
