On December 16, the Greeley City Council voted to deny Historic Greeley's nomination of City Hall (the iconic "Round Building") to the Greeley historic register, and move ahead with plans to demolish and replace it with a county-owned parking lot. This decision adds the Round Building to a tragically-long list of structures in our city that have been demolished, rather than adapted and reused, in the name of development. Many of the buildings you see here were also demolished in favor of parking lots, though they are sadly only a small sample of the historic buildings in Greeley that have been lost to demolition. These devastating losses to local history and architecture are the driving force behind our commitment to advocate for Greeley's existing historic structures. If you'd like to get involved, please visit our website or email us at [email protected].
