Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society is dedicated to saving the lives of homeless pets through adoption, medical care, and community programs.

We work to create a compassionate community where every animal is valued, cared for, and given a second chance. Our mission is to improve life for all animals by providing temporary shelter, compassionate care, community support and education. GMHS serves Gloucester, Mathews and Middlesex counties and is located at 6620 Jackson Lane, Gloucester VA 23061. Our objectives are to:

- Be a beacon in a

nimal adoption, welfare, and advocacy.
- Provide care for stray and homeless animals.
- Be a driving force for animal education.
- Develop a culture of collaboration and service.
- Ensure financial sustainability.

It's time for !

"My name is Kayne and I work at GMHS for the animals and the amazing people I have met. The crew is amazing and the animals are even more amazing. I enjoy helping animals who wouldn’t get help otherwise. I love animals and always have since I was a kid, between bringing random animals home to picking up snakes and frogs and turtles and moving them to the other side of the road. At home I like to go for walks with my pups or go outside and chill with all of my ducks in their run. I also love to go on drives with my pups!"

Looking for a four-legged adventure buddy who also knows how to kick back and relax? Brownie might be your girl!

Brownie is a high-energy, fun-loving pup who would thrive with someone who enjoys an active lifestyle. Whether it’s long walks, outdoor adventures, playtime, or learning something new, Brownie is ready to join in! Once she’s had a chance to get those zoomies out, she’s happy to settle down and enjoy some well-earned relaxation. She is very friendly with people and loves making new friends. Brownie is also a smart cookie who is eager to learn, making her a great candidate for continued training and plenty of new tricks! Brownie came to us with her canine friend, Iris. While they know each other, they are not bonded and can be adopted separately. Have cats at home? Brownie may do best with dog-savvy cats who have previous experience living with dogs, along with slow and appropriate introductions. But, she is great with kids! If your idea of the perfect companion is a happy, energetic girl who can keep up with your adventures and then relax by your side afterward, come meet Brownie! ❤

Meet Big Deborah and Big Mac! ❤❤

These two big, lovable kitties came to GMHS together after sadly losing their owner. They spent their lives in a quiet, peaceful home with an elderly woman, so finding themselves in the hustle and bustle of shelter life has been quite an adjustment.

Both Big Deborah and Big Mac are incredibly sweet, mellow cats who enjoy affection, plenty of pets, and the quieter things in life. They’re looking for calm homes where they can relax, get comfortable, and return to the peaceful routine they know and love. A home without toddlers, young children, or loud dogs would be the best fit.

Do they have to be adopted together? Nope! They can each find their own happily ever after, but if you happen to have room in your heart and home for two big, lovable kitties, we certainly wouldn’t stop you! 😉

Meet Iris! This sweet one-year-old mixed breed girl is the perfect combination of cuddly and playful! Iris is happiest when she’s snuggled up next to her favorite people. She absolutely loves affection and would happily spend her day soaking up all the cuddles she can get! She does have some puppy energy, but she’s a wonderfully polite girl who knows how to keep her manners even when she’s feeling playful. Iris has lived with dogs, including her friend Brownie, and they did wonderfully together. She has also lived with children of all ages and did great with them! If you’re looking for a sweet, affectionate young dog who is ready to be your new cuddle buddy and best friend, Iris may be your girl! ❤
