🎉 The Gloucester Institute is proud to welcome our 2026 Moton Fellows!

This summer, Brandon Level, Catherine Charles, Lauren Pearl, and Eric Brown (pictured from left to right) will participate in an immersive professional experience designed to prepare them for success in their academic, professional, and leadership journeys.

As part of their professional development, we will be handing these fellows the "keys" to our social media platforms. Throughout the summer, they will help tell the story of The Gloucester Institute through original posts, stories, reels, and behind-the-scenes content that highlights their experiences, perspectives, and growth.

This unique opportunity will allow them to strengthen their skills in communications, marketing, storytelling, and digital engagement while giving our community a firsthand look at life at Historic Holly Knoll and the important work taking place at the Institute.

Be sure to follow along, engage with their content, and support these emerging leaders as they learn, grow, and share their journey with us over the next eight weeks. We can't wait to see what they create! 🌟

What a wonderful day of team building, staff development, and pouring back into the incredible team that make The Gloucester Institute so special. 💚✨

As a thank you to our hardworking staff, we spent the day enjoying some of the same experiences we offer our guests — including a cruise down the York River, ice cream in Yorktown, and ending the evening with a crab feast on the front porch of Holly Knoll. 🚤🍦🦀

We believe that investing in our team is investing in the Institute itself. The stronger and more inspired our staff is, the better we can serve every student, guest, and visitor who comes to this campus.

When the Emerging Leaders Class of 2026 first arrived at Holly Knoll, Founders Charles and Kay James committed to encouraging strong financial habits among them.

Today, Executive Director Robert James is signing small seed contributions into students’ newly opened savings accounts — a symbolic investment meant to encourage financial literacy, saving, and responsible wealth-building for the future. 💼📈

We believe leadership and financial literacy go hand in hand, and every lesson we provide helps equip students with the tools to lead impactful and successful lives.

This initiative was made possible through the generous support of donors and supporters who believe in empowering young Black leaders through financial education and leadership development. 🌱

It is well documented that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. visited Holly Knoll regularly, finding inspiration on these peaceful and hallowed grounds along the York River. Here, surrounded by some of the nation’s greatest Black thinkers and visionaries, many of the ideas and philosophies that would help shape a nation and fuel the Civil Rights Movement were nurtured and refined. 🕊️📖

Holly Knoll became a gathering place for courageous conversations, leadership, and strategies that helped move America closer to its founding promise of liberty and justice for all. 🇺🇸

Today, The Gloucester Institute proudly carries that legacy forward by developing the next generation of leaders who will help write America’s next chapter. History is not simply remembered at Holly Knoll — it continues here every day. 🌳✨

As America prepares to celebrate its 250th anniversary, we must honor places that helped shape the nation’s conscience — places like Holly Knoll, known as a cradle of the Civil Rights Movement. ✨

The historic home of Dr. Robert Russa Moton, Holly Knoll welcomed leaders and visionaries who helped shape American history. Portions of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech are believed to have been drafted here, and conversations connected to Brown v. Board of Education, the Greensboro Four, and the founding vision of UNCF all trace back to this sacred ground. 📖

Today, The Gloucester Institute continues that legacy by developing the next generation of leaders at one of the most historically significant places in America. As we celebrate 250 years of our nation, Holly Knoll stands as a reminder that Black history is American history. 🇺🇸

There’s never a dull moment when it comes to preserving history at Holly Knoll! 🏡🎨🌿

Maintaining a historic property on the banks of the York River comes with plenty of challenges — the river conditions can be unforgiving — but protecting this important piece of American history for future generations is work we are proud to do every single day. 🇺🇸✨

Our amazing staff has been hard at work refreshing and repainting the front porch of the historic Holly Knoll mansion to ensure the campus remains beautiful and always ready to welcome guests. The porch is now refreshed, upgraded, and looking better than ever! 👏🏾🪜

And if you look closely… 👀 you may notice some new furnishings on the porch. Let’s just say this is a little hint at some exciting guest experiences coming soon to Holly Knoll. Stay tuned! ☕🌅
