Preserving history sometimes means responding to the urgent needs of an aging property.

Check out these images of the Michael & Son team working alongside the Holly Knoll staff! We’re grateful for the teamwork, expertise, and shared commitment they have brought to this important project.

Built in 1935, Holly Knoll has been lovingly maintained for generations. Inevitably, some of its aging infrastructure now requires significant—and costly—repairs. Fortunately, The Gloucester Institute was able to draw from its endowment to address this emergency.

Our Director of Programs, Christine Hunter, joined a dynamic group of professionals at Virginia State University for the Professional Enhancement/Career Launch course—helping students strengthen skills that can shape how they enter the workforce and advance once they get there. 🎓✨

Through a roundtable format, students rotated among guest mentors for conversations on professional development, communication, and career readiness.

Christine challenged students to treat every interaction with respect. One conversation can lead to a relationship, mentor, internship, job—or an opportunity you never anticipated.

At The Gloucester Institute, we prepare emerging leaders to develop the confidence, communication skills, and professional presence to recognize opportunity—and be ready when it arrives. 🌟

Research on executive leadership consistently shows that confidence, communication skills, and executive presence are important qualities associated with advancement and influence. 📈

🌿 For the fourth year, The Gloucester Institute was delighted to welcome the Woods Family back to Holly Knoll for their annual family reunion! 💚

It was a beautiful weekend of fellowship, laughter, reflection, and connection across multiple generations. One especially meaningful part of their time together was visiting the burial place of their ancestors—an opportunity to pay homage to those who came before them and reflect on the family legacy they continue to carry forward. 🕊️🌳

There is something special about bringing generations together in a place steeped in history. Holly Knoll provides families with a beautiful and historic backdrop to reconnect, celebrate, relax, and enjoy our hospitality and amenities while creating memories of their own.

We cannot wait to welcome the Woods Family back again!
