Here's our events calendar for September! It's swarmed with weekend programs, from having a table at Gloucester Day on the first Saturday to Bug Fest in York County! This month has the last couple of Fairfield Fridays with the opportunity to tread clay to make bricks!

Throughout the spring and summer, Staff, interns, and volunteers have helped make bricks that will be utilized in stabilization projects at the Rosewell Ruin. You can join us this Friday (9/4 from 10am-4pm) at Fairfield to help make more bricks!

Want to see what the next step is for these bricks? Stop by Fairfield this November, as Kenneth will lead the construction of a brick kiln to fire them, the same way the original bricks at Fairfield and Rosewell would have been fired on site.

Both of these flyers share details about the brick kiln firing, one for individuals and the other for groups!

Back to school! ๐Ÿ“š๐ŸŽ’ As students in our area went back to school this week, we thought it would be fitting to also send some of our staff "back to school" - getting trained in the DAACS cataloguing system (Digital Archaeological Archive of Comparative Slavery). This involves a deep dive into the identification of ceramics recovered from the midden (trash) area at Fairfield. We're thankful for representatives of DAACS holding our hands while we learn new things!

Thank you for coming to Rosewell!

๐ŸŒŒโœจ Despite the clouds rolling in, we still had a fantastic night stargazing during Space and the Revolution on Saturday! We caught glimpses of Venus and several stars that reminded us of what John Page might have seen from Rosewell 250 years ago. A huge shoutout to Dennis and Barry from the Virginia Air and Space Center for bringing their telescopes and sharing their passion for astronomy with us! ๐ŸŒ ๐Ÿ”ญ

Don't forget our VA250 Dig Day (Space and Revolution) at Rosewell tomorrow from 5pm to 10pm! We'll explore the ruins with excavations while it's still light, then enjoy stargazing near the Visitor Center around 8pm. Even if clouds roll in, they'll add to the atmosphere! You're still guaranteed a magical starry sight between the clouds!
