We want to thank the Kentucky State Police for taking action against an illegal cockfighting operation this past weekend and making at least one arrest. The property owner has been charged with "Conspiracy to commit animal cruelty, 2nd degree".

For years, SHARK has worked to bring attention to illegal cockfighting occurring across KSP's jurisdiction. Progress has been slow and did not happen overnight, but the actions taken this weekend show that persistence does make a difference.

We appreciate the officers and investigators who stepped up and enforced the law. Every enforcement action sends a message that organized animal cruelty is not tolerated.

Thank you, KSP, for taking this important step. We hope this marks the continuation of a stronger commitment to protecting animals and holding offenders accountable.

On Sunday in , 3 steers legs were shattered.

These mangled animals were left in pens after Ben Meyer's livestock trailer headed back to Iowa.

These brutalized animals received no veterinary care or pain relief, despite Ogle County Sheriff's Office receiving numerous calls alerting them to the situation. Instead, they told concerned citizens to come today to file a report.

Another steer with a broken leg was put in a covered shanty and then simply disappeared.

Steer tailers have admitted that degloved steers are killed, as are those with broken legs.

Meyer brought in 40 animals, and at least 19 will die or are already dead after Sunday's casualties.
