VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT: MEET DOROTHY!

After an incredible 44-year career as a registered nurse, Dorothy wasn’t quite finished caring for others. ❤️

When she retired three years ago, she became a CASA/GAL volunteer and has been showing up, speaking up, and making a difference ever since.

Dorothy’s supervisor describes her as an advocate with incredible perseverance. She has navigated language barriers, caseworker and agency turnover, and other challenges while remaining a consistent voice for the children she serves. From school and IEP involvement to building strong relationships with caregivers and parents, Dorothy makes sure her children are seen, heard, and supported.

In Dorothy’s words:
“I find the work very rewarding in the fact that I am doing something to make a difference in my foster children’s lives. They are always happy to see me when I visit.”

Outside of CASA, Dorothy still works a few days each month at the hospital, stays active in her community, and enjoys biking the Fox River Trail.

Dorothy, thank you for your perseverance, compassion, and commitment to showing up for children and families. We are so grateful to have you as part of CASA Kane County! 💙

The CASA Adventure Club is all about giving children in the CASA Kane County program opportunities to simply be kids—to have fun, try something new, make memories and enjoy experiences they might not otherwise have.

And we’ve been busy! ⚾🎨🎪✨

Our CASA kids and families have enjoyed Kane County Cougars baseball games, Pinot’s Palette paint parties, Sycamore Speedway Family Night, the circus, a magician, community festivals and more!
