The first-ever national Promote OT Challenge brought together OT students and faculty from across the country to raise awareness of occupational therapy.

Through hundreds of outreach activities, participants introduced new audiences to the impact and opportunities within the profession.

The numbers tell part of the story.

The bigger story is the students who became advocates for OT.

Swipe to see the impact, and stay tuned as we recognize this year's state winners.

Sarah McKinnon, OTR, wrote a children's book about a potato chip — and yes, the OT lesson is baked right in!

The Cheerful Chip uses food and mealtime to teach kids about friendship, confidence, and social-emotional growth. McKinnon, OT Department Chair at the MGH Institute of Health Professions, also runs Southie OT LLC, a community consulting practice bringing pediatric OT education and support to families in South Boston.

June is PTSD Awareness Month.

Trauma-informed care is OT work. From veterans to survivors of violence, from first responders to those carrying trauma quietly for years, OT practitioners help people rebuild daily life after what they've lived through. Routines, roles, a sense of safety in the ordinary. Recovery happens in the everyday.

To the OT practitioners doing trauma-informed work across every setting: thank you for showing up with patience, skill, and care. The profession is stronger because of you.

Samia Alamgir was in the middle of her doctoral occupational therapy training at the University of Florida when she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. She graduated in December 2025 — and used what she learned navigating her own care to build something bigger.

Her program, Conserve & Conquer, is a virtual fatigue management initiative shaped in partnership with the MS Foundation and over 40 neurologists. It exists so no one living with MS has to face symptom management alone.
