Rappahannock Riverfest 2026 was a day well spent outdoors with people who care about this river.

RIVERE was proud to attend and sponsor the 36th annual event. We enjoyed delicious crab, good conversation, and the company of a community that shows up for the Rappahannock.

Thank you to Friends of the Rappahannock for bringing everyone together. We are grateful for the chance to support the organizations doing this work every day.

RIVERE Ecological Center is growing—and we’re looking for a full-time Executive Director with deep non-profit leadership experience to guide RIVERE through its next phase of growth.

RIVERE is working to build a new ecological center along the Rappahannock River in Fredericksburg, Virginia: a collaborative hub bringing together researchers, environmental educators, nonprofits, ecopreneurs, public agencies, Tribal partners, and community members to advance watershed health and river stewardship.

We’re seeking an entrepreneurial leader with demonstrated success in non-profit management who can lead the RIVERE team in areas such as capital campaign management, fundraising, organizational development, partnership cultivation, and the development of our future earned-revenue coworking model.

GO Virginia Region 6 recently shared the newly released REI Action Plan, Thrive by Water, and we’re glad to see its focus on entrepreneurship, ecological innovation, and regional vitality.

The plan’s priorities closely align with RIVERE’s role as a collaborative hub for partners advancing watershed health, research, learning, environmental innovation, and community engagement. We are proud that RIVERE is mentioned in the report and recognized within Region 6’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.

This shared vision reflects the kind of collaboration RIVERE was created to support: connecting people and organizations so good work can grow, deepen, and reach more communities across the region.

The Rivers Region Entrepreneurship Ecosystem Council recently completed the GO Virginia Region 6 Regional Entrepreneurial Initiative (REI) Action Plan, "Thrive by Water." The REI Action Plan addresses gaps in the ecosystem through a coordinated, region wide strategy designed to strengthen founder support, accelerate commercialization, increase high growth business opportunities, and expand access to capital.

Big things are happening at RIVERE! 🌊

We’re excited to share a major step forward for RIVERE, made possible through support from a GO Virginia Region 6 Planning Grant.

At its heart, RIVERE is about bringing people together:

🤝 To connect community, research, and ecological innovation
💡 To turn big ideas into real-world solutions

This project is about more than a building. It’s about creating a place where learning, storytelling, technology, and environmental care come together to inspire action and pride across our region.

And the projected impact is real:

💼 Hundreds of jobs supported
🚀 New opportunities for local businesses, educators, and innovators

Even more exciting: we will be launching a Virtual RIVERE Center, so our community can start exploring, learning, and engaging with the river in new, immersive ways well before we break ground on the physical center.

For Buck Cox, the Rappahannock River has always been home.

Growing up in Fredericksburg, Buck spent countless hours exploring the river, developing a lifelong passion for nature and a deep commitment to protecting it.

That passion led Buck to a distinguished career in environmental engineering and entrepreneurship spanning over 40 years. Throughout his career, he founded and led multiple environmental technology companies and pioneered innovative environmental remediation technologies, resulting in 28 patents.

Today, Buck is giving back to the Rappahannock by creating the RIVERE Ecological Center, a collaborative hub where people of all ages and abilities can connect more deeply with the river through research, environmental education, technological innovation, and immersive experiences. Buck's vision for RIVERE is rooted in a simple belief: when people experience and understand the natural world, they are inspired to protect it.

We are grateful for Buck's leadership and his commitment to ensuring that future generations can learn from, explore, and care for the Rappahannock River.

What if caring for the river could also strengthen our region's future?

A new independent economic impact analysis by CHMURA projects that the future RIVERE Ecological Center could generate nearly $38 million in annual economic impact, support more than 200 jobs each year, and contribute more than $416 million in cumulative economic impact across GO Virginia Region 6.

But RIVERE is about more than numbers.

It's about creating a shared place where people can learn from the river, where researchers and educators can collaborate, where students can explore future careers, and where innovative ideas can grow into real-world solutions.

It's about helping more people understand that the health of our communities and the health of our river are connected.

The Rappahannock River has shaped this region for generations. RIVERE is being designed to help us learn from it, care for it, and build a stronger future because of it.
