Dear Pack 57,
We’ve all had that moment in a meeting. When the lead of a project says they need something and we look down. We look at some distant spot just slightly over their shoulder; look anywhere but directly at that person. That’s what it felt like when Mike looked around the committee years ago and said (paraphrase) “Who is going to take the Cubmaster role after me?”.
We all knew how much the Cubmaster position entailed. Did we want the extra work on top of our already heavy loads? The responsibility? The spotlight? Or, gasp, the amount of Pack gear that would have to be stored in our houses?!
Fast forward to last Saturday and I leave the Pack eternally grateful for saying yes to the role.
Parents/Guardians: Your Scouts are amazing, strong and compassionate people. They show up, even after having a hard day. They try new things, even if they have had a day of lessons and their brains are FULL. They uplift their fellow Scouts, even after others may have hurt them. They do so much, often with so much more grace, than adults. I am constantly in awe with them.
Scouts: You are enough.
Keep going. Keep being you. Keep Doing Your Best.
Keep in touch.
Pack 57, see you on the trail,
Ms. Laura
Post Script: To my amazing family: I could have never done this without you. I knew I was blessed, but with every Pack heartache, late night email, “one more phone call”, meeting, finding me once again talking to a Pack family member in the driveway of our home and yes, Pack gear stored in the garage…kitchen table…counters and mudroom…you have supported me. Thank you! It's been a wonderful journey with you.
