MILLVILLE DAZE, held Saturday, had a special celebration with the dedication of a park bench in honor and memory of Shirley “Jake” Jacobs, a Woodford County native who was a beloved member of the small community. Jake died in April. A musician, Jake was perhaps best known countywide as the songwriter of “Woodford County Line,” a song that celebrates Woodford County as a homeplace. Jake, though, was better known outside of the county as a great horseshoe player who was inducted into the Kentucky Horseshoe Hall of Fame. He also authored several books about Millville. The bench offers a perfect place to sit and relax in the Millville Park, across from the community center, near the horseshoe pits he played with skill and joy. From left, Cindy Rankin, Bryan Johnson, Gwen Johnson, Linda Gilkison, Harbor Hathaway, Holden Hathaway and Jade Hathaway. Millville Strong (Photo by Chuck Edwards)
