For too many Kentucky families, keeping the lights on is becoming a monthly crisis. As electricity bills continue to climb in many communities across the Commonwealth, ratepayers are asking why costs keep rising and whether new demands on the grid (like data centers) could drive bills even higher.

KRC Senior Attorney Byron Gary points to energy efficiency as one of the most effective ways to lower costs. Programs that help households use less energy can reduce monthly bills, improve comfort, and lessen the need for expensive new power generation.

A coalition of Kentucky Power customers are calling for increased transparency and rate review ahead of a state audit of the far-eastern Kentucky utility company.

As corporations pursue new data center projects across the Commonwealth, Kentuckians deserve a seat at the table.

In a recent interview with LEX 18, KRC Senior Attorney Byron Gary discussed why transparency, public engagement, and thoughtful local planning are essential when considering large-scale data center projects.

KRC has developed model ordinances to help local governments address key issues such as siting, infrastructure impacts, and community input before decisions are made. Find them at: https://kyrc.org/datacenters/

Demand for data centers continues to grow in Kentucky, and a program attorney at the Kentucky Resources Council is closely following the conversation.

Kentucky Resources Council is petitioning the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission for a hearing on Global Laser Enrichment’s request to license its nearly $2 billion uranium enrichment project in McCracken County.

KRC’s petition raises two questions: 1️⃣ whether the U.S. Department of Energy has the authority to sell its depleted uranium to a private company and 2️⃣ whether the environmental analysis for the facility is sufficient.
