We are honored to announce that YWCA Northeast Indiana has received continued support from the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute!

This vital grant empowers us to provide life-changing services for survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence, and human trafficking across our six-county region. With this funding, we can offer even more personalized care, resources, and hope to those who need it most.

As ICJI Executive Director Douglas Huntsinger shared, “Our communities rely on organizations that step forward every day to support survivors with dignity and care. These organizations are a lifeline for people navigating some of the most difficult moments of their lives, and this investment ensures they have the resources necessary to respond effectively when someone turns to them for help.”

At YWCA Northeast Indiana, our mission is to empower individuals and communities through advocacy, education, and support services, ensuring dignity for all. That includes girls. We believe that every girl should live in a world that will allow them to thrive – not just survive.

For this year’s , we’re calling attention to the fact that child marriage often creates significant barriers to education, financial knowledge, independence, and also significantly increases the risk of experiencing domestic violence. Here in Indiana, child marriage is legal.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) đź’ś

Every October, YWCA Northeast Indiana stands with our community to raise awareness, spark conversations, and drive action to end domestic violence. This month, we’re sharing essential resources on how to recognize the warning signs, support survivors, and take steps toward prevention.

In 2025, 100 lives were lost to domestic violence in the state of Indiana. We believe change is possible—together, we can break the cycle. Here are 4 impactful ways you can help prevent domestic violence:

"The book I'd point to is “Range" by David Epstein. He argues that people with broad experience often do better than narrow specialists in messy, unpredictable fields. Economic development is about as messy as it gets. One day I'm working with a defense manufacturer. The next day it's workforce, or infrastructure.

Range is only half of how I work, though. The principle I actually live by is Occam's Razor: the simplest explanation is usually the right one. Range gives me a lot of angles on a problem. Occam's Razor stops me from overcomplicating the answer.

When a project stalls, the cause is rarely some deep structural issue. Usually it's a missing site, a missing person at the table, or a message nobody understood. So I look for that simple thing first. Most of the time, that's the fix."
