Historic preservation isn’t just about saving buildings. It’s about keeping the stories, character, and charm that make our community feel like home. 🏛️✨

For more than 40 years, ARCH Inc. has helped protect the places that connect Northeast Indiana’s past, present, and future. From historic neighborhoods to downtown landmarks, these spaces bring people together, support local businesses, and make our communities vibrant places to live, work, and explore.

Welcome to Heritage ABCs, a new series from ARCH, Inc.🎉🎉

We’re exploring the people, places, and stories that shaped Fort Wayne one letter at a time.

A is for Auburn.

The Auburn Automobile Company became one of Northeast Indiana’s most celebrated early auto manufacturers, known for luxury design and bold innovation in the early 1900s.

Its legacy is a reminder that our region’s history is built on craftsmanship, ambition, and community pride.

Follow along as we continue from A to Z.

✨May is Historic Preservation Month!✨

At ARCH, we believe preserving historic places means preserving the stories, character, and shared heritage that make our communities unique.

ARCH celebrates, protects, and preserves architecture and community heritage in Allen County and Northeast Indiana. Through advocacy, education, and stewardship, we work to ensure these places continue to inspire future generations.

The photo featured is the historic Rankin House, which also proudly serves as ARCH’s office. ❤️😉

This month, we celebrate the buildings, neighborhoods, and histories that connect us to our past and help shape the future of our community. Thank you for supporting ARCH, Inc.

Building huggers, some say derisively. We advocate for architecture and history. Our community doesn't usually make bone-headed moves like what's pictured here. But we did this weekend. An amazing house, designed by noted local architects Wing and Mahurin, was painted Pepto-Bismol pink over incredibly beautiful stonework, destroying character that had been lovingly cared for since 1887. Besides the ugliness of the color, this seals moisture into the soft brick and sandstone of the exterior, eventually leading to a cycle of freeze/thaw that will damage the stone and spall the brick. We can do better, we have to do better....

Thinking about our upcoming lecture March 21 Healthy Historic Homes - IU Association Dean & Associate Professor Dr. Bryan Orthel. We love our old homes for beauty, craftsmanship, design, and function, but it's fascinating to think about health as well.

The most comprehensive list for why old places matters was developed by Tom Mayes and includes topics you would typically think of such as identity, memory, continuity, and beauty as well as some m…

The rehabilitation of the Arts United Center used the federal Historic Preservation Tax Credit program to help fund 20% of the project, about $8 million. Using this tool has helped other Fort Wayne and Northeast Indiana projects including The Landing and Electric Works. Preservation spending helps keep our landmarks vibrant.
