Thank you to our Denver Divas! ✨👑

Denver Lyric Opera Guild winners Natacha Beba Condor Guevara and Bella Mallow were absolute super stars at Aria Bootcamp this summer! The kindness and talent in these two incredible women brought us all so much joy! Watching them succeed though? Truly a proud moment for our whole faculty.

Thank you to the Denver Lyric Opera Guild for having our founder and director Jennifer Rowley as a judge this season!

Your kind words about the program are so deeply appreciated! ❤️

Plot twist: he might not actually be a baritone. 👀

He was retracting his tongue to darken the sound because he loved singing bass-baritone repertoire.

We freed the tongue, and suddenly: TENOR!

Sadly, we can’t choose our own voice type by the sounds we manufacture. I wish we could! I’d be the best Scarpia ever! 😂

We need to find the true, organic voice underneath, that is free and unobstructed.

Thank you to incredible young baritone, maybe tenor, Leland Smith Alexander! He was brave and trusting in this exploration, and I could not be prouder!

Special thanks to pianist, Jose Melendez!

You don’t have to move all the things, in order to hit the high note. 👀

Open the space.
Trust the air.
And allow the pitch to change.

Sometimes the voice works best when we stop trying to make it happen.

Them: “Where are all the big voices?”

Us: HI. WE’RE RIGHT HERE. 👋🏻

The problem? A lot of singers with naturally big voices have been taught to make themselves smaller. Yes, I lived in that world too! I was taught to hold it in.

“Shhhhh…🤫”
“Don’t be so loud.”
“That’s too much.”

So we learn to contain the very thing that makes our voices special.

This young soprano, Calysta Jacobs, has a BIG voice. But she was holding it in, because she thought it was too much sound.

It wasn’t. No way!

In opera, there are no prizes for holding the voice in!

Let it fly. 🔥

“Give us magic.”

A simple thought that puts your whole audition into focus.

Make a strong choice, focus the intention, and tell your story.

Thank you to incredible stage director Paul Curran, and young soprano Andrea Bickford for allowing us a little sneak peek into this special coaching session.

We feel the magic. ✨🪄

POV: you actually put in the work before the audition. 👀

The preparation.
The process.
The result.

Because that “overnight success” moment usually has a LOT happening before anyone sees it.
