Military history has become a favorite topic for internet sources. There is no end to questions, comments, topics, and opinions such as who is the greatest general, what was the most significant battle, what are the total number of casualties in a conflict or in a certain battle, what was the best army ever, and who is the most decorated American servicemember ever? The advent of online, internet websites and the ability of any person to post nearly any imaginable piece of information, whether factual or not, arouses interesting, and sometimes outrageous statements.
The most highly decorated American soldier of all time, using the term “soldier” for servicemember, is not only an interesting question, but in some circles, important to determine. There are dozens of possible candidates, many of whom have astonishing and brilliant war records. Such a question demands some background and an analytical evaluation if there is to be a conclusive answer. Careful study while using a rating and ranking system based on an order of a merit system and list, shows the most decorated American in military history is General of the Army Douglas MacArthur. Some readers may not agree with this assertion.
