Grand Canyon Youth (GCY) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Flagstaff, AZ, serving youth since 1998.

Mission: Grand Canyon Youth offers educational outdoor expeditions that connect young people to the transformative power of the rivers and canyons of the Southwest. Vision: We envision a diverse and equitable world where all youth are empowered to live with purpose while discovering and caring for self, community, and the natural world. GCY offers a variety of expeditions, including 1-day kayaking trips on the Verde River, multi-day rafting trips on the San Juan River, and multi-week expeditions on the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. We work hard fundraising year-round to keep our expedition costs low, and because we believe that cost should never be a barrier to participation, we offer additional direct financial aid. Welcome our new workstudy, Gracyn!

A little about her: I'm currently a junior at NAU studying Exercise Physiology, and I'm hoping to go into pediatric physical therapy someday! I love being outside. Running and hiking are my favorite ways to spend free time, and I love the idea of helping kids build that same connection to the outdoors and movement. When I'm not outside, you'll probably find me reading or at a concert!

Speaker Drop! Meet Rob Elliott - Sara O'Donnell - Peh Meh

💜 Rob Elliott guided in the Grand Canyon from 1965 through 2016 and was the owner and CEO of AzRA from 1974 through 2008. He also outfitted on the San Juan River for 11 years before donating AzRA's San Juan permit to NAU and GCY. Rob is the proud father and father-in-law of Alex and Fred Thevenin, is married to his best buddy Sharon Woods, and lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

💜Sara O'Donnell has been guiding for 13 years, having spent time on the American River in CA and the Green and Yampa Rivers in Dinosaur National Monument before coming to Grand Canyon. She is currently getting her PhD in Sociology after completing a master's program at NAU in Geography where she studied how people connect to the Colorado River and work to protect it. Although she is no longer working as a full time guide, Grand Canyon remains her favorite place in the whole world and she does everything she can to be down there. She did her first official GCY trip this past summer and thought it was life-changing!

💜Peh Meh is a 19 year old Grand Canyon Youth alumni who is in her second-year at Arizona State University studying elementary education.
