We organize week-long service trips from Maine to California, as well as Alaska and Hawaii in cooperation with public land agencies including the National Park and Forest Service, the Bureau of Land Management and the USFish & Wildlife Service. Some are car-camping, some are backpacks, some are lodge/dormitory based and a few are canoe camping. These trips are for active, fit people who want to sp

end time lending their help to keep trails open, restore campsites, rehabilitate damaged areas, remove invasive plants, and the many other activities needed as stewards of public land.

Our first volunteer project in Wildcat Mountain State Park in Wisconsin was a great success! 🧀⛏🌲 Our 7-person volunteer crew spent the first day of the project pulling invasive garlic mustard in a 65-acre area of the park. For the remainder of the week, our crew worked on rerouting a multi-use (horse and hiking) trail. The reroute involved removing trees, excavating roots and stumps, and creating 478 feet of new trail.

Amazing work, volunteers! And thank you to our wonderful agency partners at Wildcat Mountain State Park! Our volunteers loved working alongside you and we hope to return to Wisconsin in the future!

We'd also like to give a huge thank you to Friends Of Wildcat Mountain State Park for sponsoring this project and helping make it happen!

We are so thrilled to share a recap from our first-ever volunteer project in Jewel Cave National Monument! In short: 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚 𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤! Our volunteers spent the week rehabbing a dangerously-worn concrete path in a historic and popular are of Jewel Cave NM. The goal of this project was to prepare ~600 ft. of the trail for contractors to follow with pouring new concrete in the coming weeks. To accomplish that, our team:
🔨 Sorted and moved 40 cubic yards of concrete rubble, using sledgehammers to break it into smaller pieces
💪 Removed 200 pounds metal remesh and 60 pounds of rebar
⛏ Raked and leveled 105,000 lbs of gravel to ensure a 1% drainage slope and consistent width - then sprayed and compacted it

If that wasn't enough, on the final day, our crew built a retaining wall to prevent erosion and damage to the newly poured trail. This retaining wall required approximately 22,500 lbs of rocks, moved up the trail in the mechanized buggies 🚜 and placed by hand, and the removal of approximately 1 cubic yard of soil.

We're tired just from typing all of that! AMAZING work, crew!! 👏

We can't wait to share more from our Jewel Cave National Monument project - and hopefully return soon!

There’s still time to join our June project in Great Basin National Park! 🌲⛰️

Spend a rewarding week giving back alongside the NPS while exploring one of America’s most underrated and awe-inspiring national parks. Volunteers will help support essential trail maintenance efforts through meaningful, hands-on stewardship work that may include:

🥾 Clearing encroaching vegetation
🪨 Repairing uneven trail surfaces
💧 Installing or repairing drainage features and waterbars
📍 Placing trail markers in hard-to-follow areas

This is an incredible opportunity to make a lasting impact while immersed in rugged mountains, ancient bristlecone pine forests, and unforgettable desert landscapes. For more information and to sign up:

🍃 Take a look at some incredible nature moments from our spring project along the North Country National Scenic Trail in Pennsylvania this April! From flowing rivers and impressive beaver engineering to a snake in brumation, blooming trillium, and so much more, this project reminded us just how much beauty and life can be found while giving back to our public lands. 🌲🐍🌼💧

Every project offers more than meaningful stewardship work. It’s also an opportunity to slow down, observe, and connect with the natural world in unforgettable ways.

We're excited to share a project recap from a very unique volunteer week in City of Rocks National Reserve! Our 13-person volunteer crew assisted City of Rocks with an extensive biological survey of a newly acquired area called Circle Creek Ranch.

🔎 Our WVers surveyed 14 20-acre quandrants, reporting a total of 699 vegetation observations and 142 fauna observations. Each observation included a photo of the observed species, a GPS location, and a possible identification using either the Merlyn Bird ID app or the Seek app.

🌱 The survey data will be used in the planning for developing access to this new parcel. The data will also be shared with the native tribes of this area.

We loved being part of this important project and are grateful for our continued partnership with the City of Rocks!
