Thanks to the 58 folks that came out today to help with new trail construction as part of the base elden loops with the U.S. Forest Service - Coconino National Forest Flagstaff Ranger District (FRD) trail crew! These new trails will help organize the high number of unauthorized trails in the area as well as providing a quality system of loop trails with important connections to the proposed Elden Base Urban Trail and help with easier neighborhood access. This effort is part of the awesome Mt. Elden / Dry Lake Hills Recreation Planning Project https://www.fs.usda.gov/r03/coconino/projects/38239

Flagline Trails and the Flagstaff Trail Faeries also pitched in. KickStand donated coffee to get us fired up, Fratelli Pizza provided lunch, and Nackard Pepsi kicked in with cold beverages!
Don't worry if you missed it! The next trail day is August 22, also on the base elden loop system.

🚧 🚜 Construction on the Reserves Trails has begun! 🚜🚧

First we want to welcome Matt, Steve and Jeff from Momentum Trail Concepts to Flagstaff. They'll be building and realigning the double-black line that will replace/adopt Private Reserve over the next three months.

🚜 We also want to give a big shout-out to Brian Atkins and Empire Cat Flagstaff for hooking us with a great deal on the 302.7 mini-ex that Momentum will be using to build parts of the trail. 🚜

❗❗ 🚧 IMPORTANT NOTICE! 🚧 ❗❗

Please stay out of the area and let the guys work! For the moment it's still OK to ride Private Reserve, but Private will be closed sometime in the near future for public safety and to allow construction/realignment to move forward smoothly.

Get those last laps on the classic route in now while you still can!

FINALLY-

We still need more money to help fund this trail and minimize how much we dip into our Trail Fund account. Please consider donating at this link! https://flagstafftrails.com/donate-now/

β—β—πŸš§ ATTENTION! CAUTION! πŸš§β—β—

Flagstaff Biking Organization has Flagline Trails out improving and maintaining Full Sail this week!

Please stop if you see their cones and walk your bike around the work area.

Please follow any instructions the crew might have!

We should have an even-better Full Sail in full effect by next week.

Thank you!

Riding a bicycle can be a healthy, enjoyable and affordable way to get to work. Plenty of people regularly commute by bike.

Thanks to the 45 folks that came out today to volunteer on trails. Because of the great turnout we split into 3 groups with one shuttling to the top of Elden and hiking down to administer tread repair on upper Oldham after the recent rain events. The other two groups worked on Lower Oldham and Rocky Ridge trails.

Coffee from KickStand got us off to an early morning start and a tasty lunch was provided by Biff's Bagels. Nackard Pepsi supplied an assortment of beverages. Thanks to the U.S. Forest Service - Coconino National Forest Flagstaff Ranger District trail crew for hosting and leading the crews and work.

Head's up folks! The thinning project on Observatory Mesa is already underway and will go throughout the rest of 2026. Location is primarily Section 17 which is Lowell Observatory land.

Expect closures on some of the social trails as well as the Flagstaff Urban Trails System (FUTS). Periodic closures of Mars Hill Trail and Tunnel Springs Trail will affect access to the rest of the mesa as well as those commuting between Railroad Springs and Thorpe Park. Check the link provided below.

🌲 A forest restoration effort has begun on Observatory Mesa to restore the forest and reduce wildfire risk for both the historic and valued Lowell Observatory and the greater Flagstaff community. This map shows current trail closures. Visit gffp.org/lowell-observatory-thinning-project for updates as operations move through the project area.
