What’s better than skills that can elevate all your celebrations – and potentially help in growing your event business?

In a lovely volunteer-run workshop, 23 women learned how to make gorgeous balloon arches by hand. Smiles bubbled up as balloons took over tables, gradually becoming an eye-catching centerpiece in the community room. 🎈

These ladies will bring affordable, extra flair to parties around Casino Road. We expect to see more balloon arches at The Village parties in the future! 🎉

Having greenery is important to our mental and physical health. Snohomish Conservation District visited us at The Village again this year to bring these benefits right to families’ balconies!

Community members learned about container gardening and got to try their hand at planting some apartment-friendly vegetables. Attendees now have their own personal green spot, and hopefully some tasty, healthy veggies by the end of summer! 🥕

In our young neighborhood, mothers are pillars of our community. That’s why it was our honor to host 42 local mothers last week in celebration of Mother’s Day. In this day of solidarity and connection, mothers celebrated one another and played games, did crafts, and shared some family recipes with a potluck.

Co-Director Jillian shared with the room of familiar faces: “Mothers find each other here and become more than just friends, they become sisters. Sisters from different families who lean on each other, support one another, treat each other’s children as their own.”

CCR has brought these mothers together across the nearly 30 programs onsite. Mothers in Zumba have become close friends. Others come together at The Village and help each other with childcare, transport, and learning to advocate for themselves and their families.

With yellow roses for each mother, we recognize the unyielding strength, dedication, and love Casino Road mothers bring to the neighborhood.

Families love The Village on Casino Road so much, many leave favors and treats on our center manager’s desk as a thank you for her help in securing our spacious community room. 🎈

Birthday parties, bridal showers—all important ways to connect with one another, but difficult to do with limited budgets and limited space. The little thank yous left by families who can finally celebrate these important milestones with those they love just warms our heart! 🩵

Last month, 60 residents bettered their health on a single Friday in a gathering of 6 health partners onsite! 😮

Bi-weekly Zumba brought high-energy cardio and social connection, whileLahai Health Clinic brought free primary healthcare. Coordinated Care —now onsite on Fridays—helped uninsured residents navigate Apple Health, and our dental partner Teams International returned to provide free tooth extractions and fillings for Casino Road community members. ENTRE HERMANOS newly joins us on Fridays offering sexual health education and testing in a culturally-relevant way, so community members feel comfortable navigating sensitive topics.

And finally, Care-A-Van hosted their first clinic onsite at The Village! This marks the first time optometry has been available onsite: and they accept children as patients, too! 👓

In just one day, dozens of families received much-needed health support without the barrier of cost or insurance: all in a place full of familiar faces close to home. This is what growing true community roots looks like! 🌟

We had around 50 adults and 30 kids attend our listening session last night. It was amazing! There were two moms of two tiny babies in strollers that were front rows, actively participating in our community meeting. One mom even squeezed in some tummy time as we gave our welcome speech. 👶

After a long day, rallying kids can be a challenge—let alone loading them into the car or the stroller. Yet here those moms were, sitting in our big community room, writing on sticky notes about what our community center can do to better support them and their neighbors.

What we learned from the room was important. Our community wants us to focus on more childcare, more classes, more job fairs. 📝

But the actions families took before even entering the room tell even more: this community shows up to help each other. As we shared the results of our community wellbeing survey with these local families, they were living proof of the results: despite stark income, health, and other barriers, our neighborhood beats the county in feeling connected to the community and wanting to be more involved. 🩵

What is “Trauma-Informed❓"

Everyday, families with difficult stories come through the doors of The Village. Many are wary from the challenges they face, the let-downs they’ve experienced, and judgements they’ve received. Being trauma-informed means staff and partners are trained to better empathize with community members and meet people where they are at with kindness and patience as equals. This builds trust, reduces stress across entire families, and helps us heal as a community.

Why is a trauma-informed approach important in CCR’s work? 🤔

Every time trust is broken or we experience something difficult, it gets harder to ask for help in fear of getting hurt again. The Casino Road neighborhood is resilient in the face of challenges - and families here often experience many. Without a trauma-informed approach, we would risk adding to the trauma so many have faced instead of being a partner in overcoming past negative experiences.

We know first-hand this approach is the difference between families changing their lives or continuing their battle without support. Our #1 feedback is the kindness, care, and genuine connection people experience through our doors. 🩵

Local art workshops not only bring beauty and fun, but do wonders for our mental health.
In the latest art workshop led by CCR board member Yajaira, more than 10 local women enjoyed each other’s company.

Several said the workshop was relaxing or helped them clear their mind. Another said the workshops were great to develop her creativity. One woman simply requested: “Please keep having them" and it "makes me feel happy.” 🔆

Art goes beyond language or skill. These workshops offer residents a chance to be neighbors, share experiences, and take a rare moment for themselves in joy.

We are excited to continue this series with two more upcoming workshops on April 24 :Dia del Niño and
May 8: Mother’s Day! 🌹

Thank you to the of Everett, WA - Govt for supporting these workshops!
