A proposed federal rule could impact access to safe shelter for transgender people.

HUD is currently considering changes that would remove references to “gender” and “gender identity” from existing protections. In practice, this could require individuals to access shelters based on s*x assigned at birth, rather than their gender identity. For many people, that creates real safety concerns and increases the risk of harm, discrimination, and exclusion.

Access to safe, affirming shelter is not just a policy issue. It directly affects people’s well-being, dignity, and ability to find support when they need it most.

Public input is open right now, and community voices matter in decisions like this.

If you want to share your perspective, comments can be submitted through June 29:

What are you doing tonight?

Come hang with us at Globe Youth.

Every Wednesday evening we create an affirming space where 2SLGBTQIA+ youth can connect, build friendships, and feel supported. It is a place to be yourself, meet people who get you, and feel like you belong.

No pressure, just a welcoming space and a strong community.

Looking to get more involved behind the scenes?

The Globe Northwest Asset Team meets every other month to support planning, collaboration, and community growth. This group plays an important role in helping shape programs and strengthen the impact of our work.

Our next meeting will take place on the second Sunday in May. Community members are welcome to connect, learn more, and see how this work supports services for 2SLGBTQIA+ youth and families.

It’s a great opportunity to be part of thoughtful conversations and contribute to meaningful community impact.

What does feeling safe look like to you?

For some, it’s being able to speak freely.
For others, it’s being seen, respected, and supported.

At Globe Northwest, we believe everyone deserves a space where they can be themselves and feel like they belong. Building that kind of community takes care, intention, and people who show up for one another.

We’d love to hear from you. What does feeling safe look like in your community?

Midweek plans?

Globe Youth.

Every Wednesday evening we create space for real conversations, new friendships, and a community where 2SLGBTQIA+ youth can feel supported and understood.

Showing up each week might seem small, but it can make a big difference — building confidence, connection, and a sense of belonging over time.

Come as you are. You’re always welcome here.

Community doesn’t just happen. It’s built.

At Globe Northwest, volunteers are a big part of what makes our work possible. Their time, care, and energy help create welcoming spaces where 2SLGBTQIA+ youth and families can connect, feel supported, and be themselves.

Whether it’s helping at events, supporting programs, or working behind the scenes, every effort makes a real impact.

When people come together, community grows stronger.
