The team has been out and about sharing the mission of our work and ways people can get involved!

At One Life West, students with Reitz Leadership Academy learned the importance of showing up in their community, identified their passions and core interests, and heard from numerous nonprofits about their missions and volunteer opportunities.

We also connected with Living Word Church to share about neighborhood work and our housing efforts in Tepe Park. Congregants learned about more ways they can serve and make an impact in the community.

We had lots of fun with these groups and are thankful for opportunities to connect! 💚

We’ve all seen the “helicopter parent” who, out of love, goes too far and creates dependency.

This same dynamic can happen in outreach ministries and community service. When we rush into a neighborhood to “fix” things without knowing the context, our “helicopter neighboring” can actually harm the very people we’re trying to help.

Love Your Neighborhood is a different path forward. One that looks more like Jesus, focused on restoration, not just relief.

💬q&a: How would you explain what you do all day to a 5 year-old?
"Smash house, fix house, delegate...and a lot of paperwork."

Alex drives our housing efforts through the acquisition process, floor planning, design, and the cultivation of special partnerships with local contractors. Each week, he leads our core volunteers as they tackle demo and construction projects. His attention to detail brings beautiful and unique features to life in our affordable homes. Happy Workiversary, Alex! 👏

Love Your Neighborhood initiatives look different in every community, but we’ve seen a common theme over the years. There are periods of excitement where residents are active and engaged, followed by a lull where people disengage.

The work is hard. Investment dries up, lives get full, and it can take a really long time to see tangible results. Whatever the reason, those lulls can be disheartening.

But the hope remains. Neighborhood-based organizations and committed residents continue showing up. They keep practicing presence and proximity, continuing to meet and engage the next neighbor until it sparks new life.

Jacobsville is a story of resilience. It’s a story of neighbors who care deeply for one another and the place they live, work, worship, and play. We’re grateful to share a glimpse into their story.
