What happens when organizations walk alongside kids from cradle to community?

Audubon Kids Zone believes that when you invest in kids, their families, and the neighborhood where they live, you build a community where kids want to stay to re-invest once they grow up. Love Your Neighborhood has provided the framework for them to transform the East End of Henderson from the inside out.

At their best, facilitators fade into the background. They create space where people feel seen and heard, guide groups toward shared understanding, and help ideas take shape into collective action. If you have ever experienced excellent facilitation, you have seen the quiet magic it brings to a room.

A facilitator is not the expert in the room or the decision maker. Instead, they serve as a guide who helps the group move through a process effectively.

We are always learning from Practitioners as they innovate and implement the Love Your Neighborhood framework in their neighborhoods. Recently, the East End neighborhood in Henderson resourced resident action in a big way! Check out this interview with Bobbi Jo to hear how they were able to secure $25,000 for Resident Action Projects:

The facilitator role of a Neighborhood-Based Organization is perhaps the most important role to play in a LYN Initiative. When done well, facilitation becomes almost invisible, aligning all of the pieces, and leaving behind something far more visible: neighbors connected, resources mobilized, ownership of vision, and collective action.

Anyone can learn and practice facilitation in the flow of their daily lives. Check out our latest article for tips and tricks we've learned along the way: community1.org/facilitation-article

Neighborhoods are always changing and LYN Practitioners are always learning, adapting, shaping, and being shaped by what's happening in their neighborhoods.

Bryce with the Dream Center team is intentional about looking for invitations into the lives of neighbors. When we're proximate to one another, especially neighbors with different lived experiences, we have opportunities to learn and grow.

Why would a kid-centric organization care about neighborhood revitalization?

For Dream Center Evansville, it's simple. If you want kids to succeed, you have to wrap around their families. If you want families to succeed, you have to create a place where they can thrive. For them, that means transforming Jacobsville from the inside out through a Love Your Neighborhood Initiative.

Catch the latest episode of the Love Your Neighborhood Practitioner's Podcast with Bryce Moseby and Tom Moore from the Dream Center to hear what they are learning through neighborhood work.

Congrats to our very own, Andi Miles, for 5 years at Community One! 👏

Andi serves as our Mobilization Director, where she gets to coordinate with churches, organizations, businesses, and individuals to connect them as volunteers into our work. Her role revolves around the heartbeat of our organization—people, relationships, and tangible acts of love!

She's a fun, friendly face in and out of the office, and is always showing up for team mates. Her ideas bring a fresh variety into the work, and she's always willing to try something new to improve people's experiences with our work. We're thankful for the listening ear and encouragement she gives in the office.

Give Andi a big congrats! 🎊
