"God sent His son into the world to begin the reconciling work, which we now are invited to participate in."

When Jesus left Heaven, he entered into his missional frontier, which is all of creation, but spent the vast majority of his public ministry meeting the lost and broken where they were. In the Gospels, we find Jesus at the well in Samaria, at tables with tax collectors and sinners, in the barren places where the religiously unclean were forced to live. The Son of Humanity came to those who needed healing, not to the healthy. In the same way, we must meet our hurting neighbors where they are.

For Community One, that means loving neighbors where we are AND where we're called. Learn more about the missional frontier here → community1.org/missional-frontier-article.

Today we are celebrating Libby Kilburn and her 2 years with us! 🌟

Libby serves as our Neighbors Helping Neighbors Coordinator, bringing a calming presence and engaging with neighbors facing difficult circumstances. She listens to their needs and connects volunteers to provide a helping hand. She is also our Communications Coordinator, where she's creative in sharing content to show highlights and updates about the exciting work we get to partake in (in this case, she handed off her duties to another staff member, so she did not write this caption for herself! 😉).

While she is the youngest member on our team, certainly bringing a fun and uplifting spirit, she displays wisdom and an authentic care for others, beyond her years!

She is truly multifaceted and full of hidden gems — always up for a deep conversation or keeping it simple if that's what you need. She's intentional in everything she does, and if you ever need a song recommendation, a listening ear, a handcrafted item, a thrift store buddy, or a random fun life story, she's your girl. One thing is for sure—she never says never to having fun!

Join us in congratulating Libby on 2 phenomenal years at Community One! 🎉

Where is the missional frontier for Christians?

In the broadest sense, it is anywhere God’s space (heaven) has not yet fully reconciled with our space (earth). For Community One, the missional frontier is neighborhoods, especially those that have experienced disinvestment. Learn more about the missional frontier and where Christians are called to serve in our latest article!

Trust us when we say the next generation is ready to love their neighbors and serve their community! 🫶

Last week we spent four incredible days with 19 student volunteers from different local churches and Evansville Christian School. These students learned who their neighbors are, why loving our neighbors matters, and how they can put their love into action.

And they sure worked up a sweat when doing so! From walking through the neighborhood and connecting with awesome neighbors, to helping families with yard projects, demoing a rehab house, adding finishing touches to the new builds, and serving at our ribbon cutting event, these students worked hard and served wholeheartedly. They learned the power of presence, noticing the good around them and sharing it with others, and building meaningful relationships with their neighbors.

After spending the week with these students, we are feeling encouraged and hopeful, and confident that this next generation will continue to love and serve their neighbors well. 🧡🤝

"We want you here."

These may be some of the sweetest words a Love Your Neighborhood practitioner could hear from a neighbor. As we follow Jesus into the mission field, we learn that even more important than being welcoming is being welcomed. When we take the posture of a guest, come alongside residents in their vision, and follow the lead of neighbors, we create an environment where we are truly welcomed and wanted.

We're so excited to share that we officially cut the ribbon on our two newest builds on Madison Ave! ✂️🏠

This afternoon we gathered with supporters, trades and community partners, volunteers, donors, neighbors, and Next Gen Experience students to celebrate the completion of these beautiful new builds that will soon provide safe, stable housing for families.

We're beyond thankful for our financial partners at CenterPoint Energy Foundation, The Good Samaritan Home, Inc., and the City of Evansville for helping to make these projects possible, and we were honored to welcome Kendra Hatfield from the City Council Ward 4 representative as our guest.

These homes would not be standing today without the expertise and generosity of many trades partners and volunteers. Thank you for sharing your time and talents to help expand affordable housing opportunities in our community. 💙

Both 520 and 522 Madison homes will be available for purchase in the next few weeks! To learn more about our purchasing process, visit community1.org/homepurchase.

Renew's first goal for Love Lamasco was to simply have their congregation be present in the neighborhood.

It is the repeated presence in the lives of our marginalized neighbors that builds trust. Neighbors are used to churches and non-profit organizations coming in to fulfill their program, ministry, serve-day, etc…and then leaving.

What they have not experienced as much of are those same people returning to simply be with them, without an agenda. Love Your Neighborhood takes a different approach.

Renew Church has always taken an incarnational approach to ministry.

Success, for their church, is defined by how many members they can send outside of the church walls to build genuine relationships with neighbors. For the past 3 years, they have been walking alongside Lamasco neighbors, building relationships, listening to neighbors' vision, and working together to bring that vision to life.

Hear more about it from Kelli Ward in our latest Practioner's Podcast. Find it anywhere you listen to podcasts!

Wishing our Philanthropy and Brand Director, Jonathan Boettcher, a happy 1 year workiversary! 🎉

Jonathan serves our team by bringing our community’s stories to life and elevating our brand’s presence. He's multifaceted in many regards, especially when it comes to tech, the camera, and visual design. This role brings opportunities to use his creative talents. As a leader, he's not limited to only caring for the outputs of his team, but he's also concerned for their well-being, often facilitating a time to reflect and communicate as a team.

At heart, he's a storyteller. His curiosity brings a sense of interest and appreciation for others, and a listening ear as he holds onto every detail. As he has the opportunity to collect people's memories and history, he carries the responsibility to carefully craft their stories, letting them be heard.

In the office, Jonathan brings a sense of positivity and thoughtfulness. He's a team player, willing to solve an unknown problem, stepping in as support, or getting his hands dirty. He also finds intentional, unique ideas to amplify organizational pursuits, both relationally and strategically.

Help us give a big congrats to celebrate Jonathan's 1st year at Community One! 👏
