Urban Seeds Urban Seeds was founded in 2005 as a community urban garden project and incorporated as a nonprofit in 2008.

Urban Seeds is a nonprofit based in Southwest Indiana supporting the health of our community by advocating for a quality, robust, and equitable local food system, to increase access to nourishing food for all. Based in Evansville, Indiana, our current initiatives are:

Nourish - Low-cost grocery program connecting families to fresh food, cooking resources and kitchen tools. Market on Main - Seasonal farmers market in downtown Evansville, Wednesday mornings from June-September

SNAP Acceptance + Double Up Indiana - SNAP acceptance at Market on Main and Franklin Street Bazaar with a $20 match to purchase fruits and vegetables. Book n' Cook - Kids cooking program in partnership with EVPL promoting literacy, culinary skills and local agriculture.

One of the last stops during our food system tour in St. Louis was at Tower Grove Farmers' Market annual Harvest Festival. We explored over 200 vendors and food businesses, purchased a variety of locally grown and crafted products, and went home with inspiration for our own Market on Main EVV and food programs. Our little city has so much room to grow, and we’re so excited to be a part of it! Do you have any dream market vendors? 🌞

Party at the apple house! 🎉🍎 Have you visited Reid's Orchard yet this season? Our team drove to Owensboro to source apples, cabbage, broccoli and more for our Nourish customers this week. We browsed over 8 varieties of apples, enjoyed c***r floats and connected with a key grower in Western Kentucky's local food system. Make Reid's Orchard part of your fall festivities:

During our team’s self-guided food system tour in St. Louis, we had the opportunity to attend a class at Fennel Cooking Studio. We’ve followed their business for a while now, and we were so excited to finally pay them a visit! As students, we learned facilitation tools and sharpened our skills in the kitchen. As local food advocates, we observed how this dedicated culinary space brings community members together through shared experiences and seasonal food.

As we work our way through our own cooking class schedule this fall, we’ll remember our positive experience at Fennel Cooking Studio. Thanks for having us!
