We support the use of evidence-based treatment for children & families with training, consulting, and outreach services to promote positive family life. Oregon Community Programs (OCP) has been supporting kids and families in Oregon for over 40 years. We provide safe, stable homes for youth in foster care and evidence-based mental health services for children, teens, and families. We partner with

state agencies to reach kids who might otherwise fall through the cracks, offering highly trained caregivers and 24/7 support. Parenting a toddler can be wonderful, exhausting, funny, and really hard, sometimes all in the same day.

If you are caring for a child ages 0-3 and could use more tools, support, and encouragement, we’d love to have you join us for our FREE Parent-Toddler Workshop.

This workshop is designed for real families and real-life challenges. It’s low-pressure, welcoming, and focused on learning helpful tools together, not on judgment or perfection.

We’ll share practical strategies to help you build positive interactions, support healthy attachment, and respond to big feelings and challenging behaviors.

While you’re here, we’ll help take care of the details so you can focus on learning and connecting.

Happy Pride! 🌈

This month, we're celebrating the strength, resilience, and diversity of LGBTQIA+ youth, families, foster parents, staff, and community members.

At Oregon Community Programs, we believe every young person deserves to feel safe, supported, and valued for exactly who they are. Through our QUEST program, we provide affirming treatment foster care services designed to help LGBTQIA+ youth build connections, develop confidence, and thrive.

Yesterday, we had the privilege of celebrating our foster parents at a Foster Parent Appreciation Lunch filled with connection, laughter, games, and gratitude. ❤️

Foster families spent time together socializing, meeting with members of our Board of Directors, and enjoying a well-deserved afternoon of appreciation and community.

One of the most meaningful parts of the event was seeing the hand-painted vases created by youth for their foster parents displayed throughout the room. Each one was unique and served as a small reminder of the care, patience, and connection that foster parents help create every day.

Foster parenting is not easy, but it is deeply important work. We are incredibly thankful for the individuals and families who open their homes and hearts to support youth in our community.

Thank you to all of our foster parents for the compassion, stability, and encouragement you provide every single day!

After 23 years of opening their home, hearts, and lives to children in need, Sherri and her husband Mike are retiring as OCP foster parents. ❤️

Over the years, they have shown up for countless youth with patience, stability, humor, compassion, and care during some of the most difficult moments in those children’s lives. The impact of foster parents like Mike and Sherri reaches far beyond the walls of their home. It creates safety, connection, healing, and hope that lasts for years to come.

While we recently had the chance to recognize Sherri at our Foster Parent Appreciation celebration, we wanted to take another moment to truly honor what 23 years of foster parenting means to so many children, families, and our community.

Mike and Sherri, thank you for every late night, every school pickup, every hard conversation, every celebration, every act of advocacy, and every child you helped feel safe and valued. OCP and our community are better because of you.

Children’s behavioral health and healthcare access in Oregon is being shaped right now, and your voice matters!

The Children’s Institute is collecting feedback from providers, caregivers, families, and community members across the state to help guide advocacy priorities for the 2027 legislative session, with a strong focus on prevention, behavioral health, and support for kids and families before they reach crisis points.

The survey takes about 10 minutes and is open through June 5.

The more perspectives represented, the stronger and more effective this work can be.

When teachers feel supported, students benefit too. 💚

Recently, members of our team presented to Eugene School District 4J educators on connection, regulation, and practical strategies for supporting students in the classroom. The response was incredibly meaningful.

Teachers shared that they left feeling “refreshed and prepared,” with tools they could start using immediately, including body-based regulation strategies, emotional labeling, and the PRIDE skills framework for building stronger relationships with students.

One educator shared:
“Connection comes before correction.”

Another reflected:
“These strategies seem so simple, but actually make a big difference in building relationships and teaching students self-awareness and self-regulation.”

We know educators are carrying so much right now. Hearing that this training helped teachers feel supported, validated, and more equipped to help students regulate, connect, and learn means a great deal to us.

Thank you to the educators who continue showing up for kids every day, and to our team members for helping bring practical, relationship-centered support into classrooms across our community!!

This National Foster Care Month, we’re celebrating the foster parents, kinship caregivers, and support systems who show up for children every single day. 💙

Foster care is not just about opening a home. It’s about offering patience during hard moments, creating safety and stability, celebrating small wins, and helping kids feel seen and supported.

At Oregon Community Programs, we’re grateful for the caregivers who partner with us to help children and families heal, grow, and stay connected. The work is not always easy, but it changes lives.

This month, we also want to recognize the many people who make this support possible, including clinicians, caseworkers, teachers, mentors, respite providers, and community members who continue showing up for kids and families.

2:13 AM: The house is quiet except for barely audible, muffled crying.

Just loud enough to wake Shirley, who has learned over the years to sleep lightly. She sits up, listening. Within seconds, she knows this is going to be one of the hard nights.

She finds her a few moments later, tangled in blankets, breathing fast, somewhere between asleep and awake. Sometimes it’s a night terror. Sometimes it’s not. Either way, her body is telling a story her words can’t.

Shirley kneels beside the bed, not too close. “You’re okay,” she says softly. “You’re safe.”

What happens next is the quiet, unseen work of foster care. The kind that happens in the middle of the night, over and over again. And over time, those moments begin to add up. The crying softens. Sleep comes easier. Trust starts to take root. It’s slow, but it’s real. And it’s how healing begins.

Toddler tantrums, hitting, not listening... feeling overwhelmed?

Our PCIT-Toddler program supports children ages 1–3 and their caregivers.

Through guided, play-based sessions, you’ll learn how to:
• Build a stronger connection with your child
• Support emotional regulation and reduce meltdowns
• Respond to challenging behaviors with confidence
• Create more calm, positive moments at home

You’ll receive real-time coaching from a trained therapist, so you’re not left guessing what to do next.

This program is especially helpful for toddlers who are:
• Showing aggression or defiance
• Experiencing anxiety
• Developmentally delayed
• In foster care or have experienced early adversity
