For a child to thrive in the classroom, it starts with having enough to eat.

In Uganda, school meals give children an important source of nourishment to support their growth, learning and development. With one in three children under age 5 experiencing stunted growth due to poor nutrition, access to nutritious food can make a lasting difference.

Through Holt sponsorship, children receive meals at school while families learn how to improve nutrition at home. Caregivers also receive support to grow food and raise livestock, helping families work toward greater food security and long-term stability.

Three years ago, Erdenebileg was underweight and often sick. Today, he is growing, learning and reaching new milestones. 💛

When Holt's team in Mongolia first met Erdenebileg, his family needed help providing the food and developmental support he needed. Thanks to the generosity of Holt sponsors and donors, he began receiving nutritious food, special education and therapy through Holt-supported programs.

Harrison is a bright, polite and lively 4-year-old boy who enjoys playing with cars, building with blocks and exploring the world through play. He especially loves trips to the park, where he can race down the slide, plus learning about ocean animals like octopuses and sharks. Dinosaurs are another favorite! Harrison is intelligent and articulate, becoming increasingly curious about joining activities with his peers. He thrives in a structured, predictable environment where he feels safe and supported. His ideal family will be patient, loving and nurturing, providing the consistency and encouragement he needs to continue growing and thriving. Some years ago, a Holt team member captured this photo while traveling in Vietnam, visiting children and families in Holt-supported programs.

What's striking about this girl is the confidence she exudes, standing shoulders back in her crisp white shirt with a red plaid collar — part of the school uniform her sponsor provided. With a warm, earnest smile and eyes looking directly at the camera, she has the self-assured expression of a girl who knows that life will work out for her.

You would never know this girl has grown up in poverty or that she needed any help from anyone ever. But because of the kindness and generosity of her sponsor — a person she has never met — she can go through life with the confidence that she can graduate from school and do whatever she dreams in life. And thanks to the bright red bicycle she received as a Gift of Hope from a Holt donor, she can ride to and from school safely — and in style.
