Thank you to everyone who joined us to learn about the Emerald Ash Borer and what it means for Oregon's ash trees. We explored EAB impacts, trapping and monitoring efforts, and the cultural importance of ash through a special presentation on traditional canoe paddles by Rachel Cushman (Chinook) and Drew Viles (Siletz).

A huge thank you to presenter Matt Mills and Benton SWCD for sponsoring this important community event. Together, we're helping protect Oregon's native ash for future generations. πŸ’šπŸŒ³

Watershed stewardship takes more than good intentions-it takes partnership. πŸ’§πŸŒΏπŸŸ

At Deck Family Farm, that partnership comes to life through thoughtful creek management and a deep commitment to the land. With support from Long Tom Watershed Council, projects like riparian planting, fencing, and improved fish passage are helping protect water quality and create healthier habitat for native species.

Amanda from LTWC has been a key partner in this work, teaming up with the Deck family to bring technical expertise, collaboration, and care to each phase of the project.

Students from Springfield’s WELL Program , teamed up with the Middle Fork and Long Tom Watershed Councils for hands-on river science on the Long Tom! Together, they surveyed in-stream habitat, learned how healthy watersheds support native fish, and collected data to map future restoration opportunities. Big thanks to all our partners who make this powerful, place-based learning possible!

The Capital Assistance for Local Farmers (CALF) Project brought together farm and food organizations across the state with lenders and government funders to bridge the gap, provide better technical assistance to farmers, and generate feedback loops to make programs more accessible to small and mid sized farmers in Oregon.

As a partner on this project, the Upper Willamette Working Lands Program invites you to join Friends of Family Farmers for a virtual webinar on Tuesday, December 9th, from 12-1pm to learn more about the the project, who was involved, what was learned, and our four final recommendations in order to achieve the ultimate goal of small and local market farmers getting a bigger share of the funds available for climate-smart, local, and community-oriented farming. This would help create stronger farm businesses and build a web of service providers to carry this work forward in the future.

Stay tuned for the CALF Final Project Report released December 8th!
