We are working to strengthen Oregon’s environmental health policies to better protect people.

We are a statewide environmental justice organization advancing policies that ensure meaningful participation and cultivating grassroots leadership from Oregon’s frontline and impacted communities. Established in 2001, we are a multicultural, inter-generational team dedicated to centering community leaders and building out the true diversity of our state’s vibrant Environmental Justice movement.

CleanLane Waste Recovery Facility is the answer to several waste management challenges Lane County is facing.

It will capture 95-99% of methane emissions from Short Mountain Landfill, which is Lane County’s second-largest source of greenhouse gasses. By diverting 80,000 tons of waste per year, it will extend the life of the landfill by decades. It will reduce toxic leachate runoff into the Willamette River and recirculate recovered materials into the local economy.

Despite the obvious benefits, it has faced challenge after challenge from Sanipac and the Lane County Garbage and Recycling Association, a trade group formed in direct response to CleanLane.

Why the pushback? Because it means less profits for big haulers. Sanipac, which is not locally owned, is starving Lane County’s waste management system of vital funds by diverting hundreds of thousands of tons of waste to their own landfill in Medford, driving nearly 1.5 million miles in 2025 alone just to maximize profits at the expense of Lane County residents.

From rate hikes to lawsuits, a lot is going on with trash in Lane County. Navigating the web of private interests, profiteering, and political posturing can be overwhelming. We’re here to help you cut to the chase, stay informed, and identify ways to get involved.

This webinar will provide an overview of Lane County’s CleanLane Project and its environmental and economic benefits. We will also cover why it has received so much opposition from haulers and what could be motivating that opposition.

Lastly, we will recommend a few easy ways to get involved and leave plenty of time for Q&A.

🔋 Clean Energy Workshop Alert! 🔋

We are hosting a workshop for West Eugene residents where we will be sharing information about the benefits of clean energy, energy efficiency, and the available incentive programs so you can make the most informed decisions possible when it comes to implementing clean energy retrofits in your home.

We are also identifying 45 qualifying households who are considered disadvantaged and low-income in order to help fund the installation of heat pumps, water heaters, and insulation projects.

This workshop is supported by Homes for Good Housing Agency, Fossil Free Eugene, and Eugene Water & Electric Board.
