Delgani String Quartet

This past November Delgani was joined by Sarah Beaty, Henriët Fourie, and Vakare Petroliunaite for Love Abounds, a unique program blending strings and voices.

Sarah, Henriët, and Vakare have since formed a new vocal ensemble called TRIO CONTIQUE.

We hope our Portland-based friends will consider catching their upcoming debut on June 20!

Last week we finished up two days of visits to Eugene/Springfield schools as part of our Classical Spark initiative. Thanks to the following schools for letting us come by:

Kent Darnielle has written and performed works for radio drama, industrial video, television news, exercise video, film documentary, and commercials (1985 to the present).

Delgani will perform his quartet, "From Where You Have Been Falling," at our season finale:

"In this piece I reflect back on this place where my distant ancestors lived and on the hardships they endured as they traveled, generation by generation to inhabit the rest of the planet. While not borrowing from “pure” African melodies and rhythms, I tried to capture a bit of the feel for the music by combining folk-like melodies with ever-shifting accents. The pizzicato sections were inspired by the many African string instruments that can be played with the fingers or a pick."
