Our Executive Program class kicked off the Central Region session by diving into some of the issues shaping Maryland's future: economic mobility, workforce development, and housing.

After an overview of the region, the class visited Vehicles for Change, where we heard from Martin Schwartz '14 (LM), the organization's president, about how reliable transportation helps break the cycle of poverty. Over lunch, Kirkland Murray '22 (LM) and the Anne Arundel Workforce Development Corporation shared how to connect people to family-sustaining jobs.

At the Ulman Foundation, we delved into one of Maryland's most pressing challenges: housing security and affordability. Thank you to Leadership Maryland alumni Scott Gottbreht ’26 and Nico Sanders ’23 (LM) for participating in a great panel discussion.

We capped the night with a behind-the-scenes tour and dinner at the historic Hippodrome Theatre.

Thank you so much to Thursday's Central Region session sponsors, Anne Arundel Workforce Development Corporation, Community Housing Associates, and the Hippodrome Foundation, Inc., for supporting yesterday's session!

What a day across the great state of Maryland! 🏟️

Yesterday, members of the Executive Program Class of 2026 had the option to add a full day to the Central Region session and explore some of Maryland's most iconic institutions.

We started at the Conowingo Dam, one of the largest non-federal hydroelectric dams in the U.S., and the largest dam in the state of Maryland, then headed to Baltimore for a behind-the-scenes tour of M&T Bank Stadium, home of the Ravens. The learning continued with a special Orioles update from Catie Griggs, President of Business Operations for the Baltimore Orioles, before we capped the night with dinner and a game at the legendary Oriole Park at Camden Yards.

Stay tuned for more updates as the class officially kicks off its Central Region session today!

Yesterday, our Emerging Leader 3rd Class gathered for its orientation retreat at the Hyatt Place Kent Narrows & Marina!

Throughout the day, class members explored their leadership journeys, reflected on pivotal moments that shaped who they are today, examined what it means to lead authentically, and gained insights into their individual DiSC management styles. They also had the opportunity to get to know their classmates better, share perspectives on strengthening connections across the state, and begin establishing the foundation for a collaborative year ahead.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to such an engaging and inspiring first session. We look forward to continuing the journey together when we reconvene in July!

Leadership Maryland’s Executive Program wrapped up its Southern region session on Friday with a day focused on education, innovation, and healthcare.

The morning began at the James A. Forrest Career & Technology Center, where participants were welcomed with a musical presentation and explored the transformative impact of career and technical education. Sessions on the Kirwan Commission and the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future highlighted the promise of a world-class education system for every Maryland child.

In the afternoon, the group visited Calvert Health, where they experienced a robotic surgery virtual reality demonstration and learned about Maryland’s unique healthcare model. Discussions with leaders from the Maryland Hospital Association and Calvert Health provided valuable insights into the state’s innovative approach to healthcare.

Thank you to all the speakers, facilitators, and our session sponsors, CalvertHealth, The Patuxent Partnership, and SMECO, for contributing to another great session!
