Congratulations to our Board Member, LaMonte Cooke. Governor Wes Moore presented a citation to him for his extraordinary career of service and leadership! As the first African American deputy in Kent County and the longest-serving local corrections officer in Maryland, LaMonte has paved the way for others while making a lasting impact on our community. We are proud to celebrate this remarkable achievement and grateful for his dedication, commitment, and service. Thank you, LaMonte, for being an inspiration to so many!
I had the honor of presenting a citation to Warden LaMonte Cooke — the first African American deputy in Kent County and the longest serving local corrections officer in Maryland.
I was also proud to be the first Governor to attend an MCAA Awards Banquet in 49 years.
MCAA and our state’s correctional professionals provide a valuable service, from championing alternatives to incarceration, supporting people pursuing careers in criminal justice, and developing programs to help those in custody.
They deserve to be seen and supported, and I’m happy to do so.
