TomCat Solutions We are a non-profit volunteer group dedicated to reducing the number - and improving the lives - of free-roaming cats on MD's Mid-Shore.

We advocate Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) to fix cat overpopulation - and adoption to good homes and barns.

Meet APRIL, a lucky nine week old kitten found by caring people when her leg was caught in a sling trapping her and cutting off the blood supply. April's leg could not be saved but she is already walking and doing very well. Very soon she will be running around with her foster home friends looking for her forever home.๐Ÿพ ๐Ÿฑ

Community Cats Coalition is run by Susan Coleman out of Berlin, MD. For years she has been a vital, important factor to have cats sterilized in her greater area. We are so sorry that she and the young opossum had to endure the home ownerโ€™s decision to have the animal killed. Opossums are friends. They eat ticks, bugs, worms and vermin. They are one of the oldest mammals on earth. Please educate people so this doesnโ€™t happen again.

Warning: Rant - To the lady who would not let AC release the sweet young opposum back to the woods just because you don't like opposums....you signed his death warrant! And why???? Just because he was hungry + went into the trap to eat the food that was in it! He did nothing wrong! He was just hungry + wanted to eat! Do you know how many opposums + raccoons I have released from my traps while trying to trap community cats? Hundreds!!!! I was told that because you wouldn't let him be released he was going to be euthanized! He was terrified + shaking! May Karma visit you soon! I m so tired of these arcane antiquated laws that do nothing to help animals... from shelters killing terrified cats for space, to AC making limits on how many animals you can have, to landlords making you decide on a roof over your head or surrendering your beloved pet, to an entity trying to force us to sign a "breeders application" because we have unspayed nursing momma's in our care who have just given birth? We ARE a legal 501 (c) 3 non profit organization governed by the State (with our Articles of Incorporation) + by Federal law ( due to our IRS status)! We practice + promote Trap/Neuter/Return. We TNR between 30 to 60 cats per week. We drive 6 hours round trip to Pa. to get them fixed! Our vans, paying for gas + tolls out of our pockets! We receive no funding from the county + pay for everything out of our own pockets, yet WE are the ones killing ourselves, staying out late trapping, transporting, caring for the cats in our community because we know that TNR is the only way to STOP the overpopulation of cats here on the Eastern Shore of Maryland! Our county commissioners are giving millions to open a larger kill shelter here! Why can t they understand that money should be invested in a low cost spay/neuter clinic right here? Think of all the animals, pets, community cats that would be fixed thus preventing the shelter from filling up with endless kittens + puppies??? It s such an easy solution! Too old + too tired after 42 years of rescue + not seeing any changes! Their lives matter! Every single one of their lives matter! Sorry, not sorry! Exhausted!

When in doubt take action! ๐Ÿฑ

This sweet girl showed up at an active trapping location, and it was immediately clear to us that she wasnโ€™t your typical stray. She was clean, affectionate, and comfortable with people. Everything about her said

One of our followers thinks we should leave cats like this alone. ๐Ÿค” She thinks we are luring cats into traps and taking them away from their home. Her concern is that we are knowingly taking someone's pet away. What do you think? What would you do?

For us, it comes down to this:

We are ๐™˜๐™ค๐™ข๐™ข๐™ž๐™ฉ๐™ฉ๐™š๐™™ to doing what we believe is best for each individual cat, based on the situation in front of us. โœ… And in this case, leaving her outside without knowing her story didnโ€™t feel right.

Why would we leave an obvious pet outdoors not knowing the situation? Sure, she could have been an indoor/outdoor cat who was just out for a stroll. ๐Ÿˆ Or, she could have escaped her home and been lost or could have even been left behind. Without knowing, the safest and most compassionate choice was to step in, make sure she was cared for, and actively try to find her family. So thatโ€™s exactly what we did.

We made several posts online, alerted the shelter, and put up flyers.

And then something amazing happened. CVRR volunteers put up flyers at 3:52pmโ€ฆ and by 3:57pm, we got the call. โ˜Ž๏ธ

Nyxโ€™s mom. ๐ŸคŽ

She had pictures, lived nearby, and had been searching for her sweet girl. Nyx had slipped out while a sitter was there and her owner was on vacation. She came home and spent the entire night looking for her.

Because we acted, Nyx is home. Safe. Loved. Exactly where she belongs. ๐Ÿ

We were also able to talk with her owner about microchipping to protect Nyx in the future. She was incredibly receptive and will definitely get that done. Even more, she shared information about other cats in the area, which will help CVRR continue TNR efforts and connect more dots in the community.

So yes, this was a success! ๐ŸŽ‰
Not because we were โ€œright,โ€ but because a cat is safely back in her home, and more help is now on the way for others.

UPDATE: Lost the boy but female doing well.

Fingers crossed for baby possums that were found in one of the cat shelters with their deceased mom.๐Ÿคž
Tom and Dr Teri immediately responded and helped rescuing the surviving two babies. They turned out to be a female and male, about eight weeks old and very emaciated. Babies are now in the care of a caring wildlife rehab specialist. Please send them good wishes. ๐Ÿพโค๏ธโ€๐Ÿฉน
