We’re over halfway there!

During Breakfast with The Collective, we announced our first grantmaking goal: to raise $30,000 so that Collective Giving of Anne Arundel County can begin issuing micro-grants to local nonprofits that meet urgent needs across our community.

As of June 8, we have raised $16,587.59 in funds available for future grants, which means we need $13,412.41 more to launch our first grant cycle.

These grants will help local nonprofits respond to practical, urgent needs connected to stability, such as transportation support, short-term childcare assistance, utility help, gas cards, and other community-based solutions that help prevent a temporary setback from becoming a crisis.

To help us get there and to help decide which nonprofits receive funding, we need more neighbors to join the circle.

Membership starts at $100, and members can participate in the grantmaking process.

The circle is forming, and it is not complete without you.

Last week, we gathered for Breakfast with The Collective to continue building a giving circle rooted in community, dignity, and shared responsibility.

Collective Giving of Anne Arundel County began with a simple question: What can we do, together, to create real impact for our neighbors? During the event, we talked about ALICE households, the working families and individuals in our community who are doing their best but still facing urgent needs that can quickly become a crisis. As we heard during the program, “these are real people,” including our neighbors, coworkers, and community members who may not outwardly show the struggle but still need support.

We also shared our first grantmaking goal: to raise $30,000 so we can begin offering micro-grants of $1,000 to $5,000 to local nonprofits that meet urgent, practical needs related to family stability.

The circle is forming, and it is not complete without you.

Join us for Breakfast with The Collective on Thursday, May 28, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at the Nonprofit Center in Crownsville.

This purposeful morning will bring together current and potential members of Collective Giving of Anne Arundel County for connection, learning, and shared impact.

We are excited to welcome Aleksey Reschetnikov, Sr. Director of Research and Impact Analysis at United Way of Central Maryland, who will share a special presentation on ALICE households, community members who are working but still struggling to make ends meet.

Together, we’ll explore how CGAACo can help fill the gaps within the gaps by pooling resources to support nonprofit partners responding to urgent and emergency needs in our community.

The circle is forming, but it’s not complete without you.

Every day in Anne Arundel County, too many of our neighbors are working, caring for their families, and doing everything they can to stay afloat, but still struggling to meet basic needs.

These households are often described as ALICE households, which stand for Asset-Limited, Income-Constrained, Employed. They are above the federal poverty line but still unable to afford the basics, such as housing, childcare, transportation, food, healthcare, and utilities.

In Anne Arundel County, 33% of households were below the ALICE Threshold in 2023.

That is why Collective Giving of Anne Arundel County exists.

We are building a community-led giving circle to support nonprofit partners that can respond to urgent, everyday needs with compassion, dignity, and speed. A car repair. A utility bill. A short-term housing gap. Emergency childcare. These are the moments when a small challenge can quickly become a crisis.

Together, we can help fill the gaps within the gaps.

Something new is taking shape in Anne Arundel County.

We’re proud to officially launch Collective Giving of Anne Arundel County.

We were created to respond to the moments that can’t wait. When a small setback becomes a crisis. When someone falls into a gap that traditional systems and funding don’t always reach in time.

We are a giving circle. A community of neighbors coming together to support local nonprofits doing people-first work, providing timely, compassionate support when it matters most.

Because generosity isn’t reserved for a select few. It belongs to all of us.

This is about neighbors helping neighbors.
This is about filling the gaps within the gaps.

The circle is forming.
