Friday Feature: Melody Warren 🌞

This week we’re spotlighting Melody Warren - proof that some people can manage medical billing, maintain meaningful friendships, support their community, and somehow still radiate “Soak Up the Sun” energy. ☀️

💼 What She Does: Melody is the owner of Aspen Billing, where she contracts with private medical groups to handle revenue cycle management — which basically means she keeps the financial wheels turning while the rest of us pretend we understand medical billing codes.

❤️ What She Cares About: Family, friendships, and making time for meaningful connections, Continuing to grow, learn, and challenge herself personally and professionally; Showing up for her community and contributing in ways that matter

💪 Why She Shows Up to Rotary: “To give back, meet great people, and be involved in projects that make our community stronger.” (Simple. Powerful. Very Rotary.)

🔥 Fun Fact: Melody is adopted and has reconnected with several biological family members, which honestly sounds like the kind of story that deserves its own Netflix documentary.

Now help us settle this:
If your life had a “walk-up song” every time you entered a room… what would it be? 👀🎶

Join our members like Melody every Thursday, you have a seat here - everyone does. You should be here.

HOT TAKE: our speaker tomorrow might literally save your life someday…

Tomorrow, Thursday May 28th, 2026, High Noon Rotary is welcoming Chief Randy Black of Durango Fire & Rescue, the man responsible for running a department who keeps Durango from becoming a cautionary tale...👏

Because if you’ve ever wondered what it really takes to protect a mountain town through wildfire season, extreme weather, and the full spectrum of human decision-making, then this is the lunch for you.

Come hear his story. Ask your burning questions. Pun absolutely intended. 😏

12 Noon | Elks Lodge - Be there or miss the heat.

Anyone is welcome! Join in on the fun, cause as always, you should be here.

🇺🇸 Hey Durango - this Memorial Day, we wanted to take a moment and pause…to say thanks. At Rotary, we talk a lot about service. Today is a reminder of what service at its most profound looks like & how much we owe to those who gave everything.

So before you climb the trails, push off from the river, or venture to the desert to enjoy one last day in this long weekend…take a beat. Say a name out loud if you know one. Thank a vet if you see one. Let our La Plata’s and San Juan’s remind you how much beauty was bought.

Durango sits on land with deep roots - Indigenous, Spanish, pioneer, military. Today feels like a good day to hold all of that. To widen the circle of who we remember. We live in one of the most remarkable places on earth. Today’s a good day to remember we didn’t get here alone:

🤍The soldiers of every World War.
🤍The Korean War veterans - the “Forgotten War,” never forgotten by us.
🤍The Vietnam veterans.
🤍The Gulf War and post-9/11 generation.
🤍The Navajo Code Talkers.
🤍The Buffalo Soldiers.
🤍The Nisei soldiers of the 442nd.
🤍The Women’s Army Corps, WAVES, and WASP pilots.
🤍The Filipino veterans of WWII.
🤍The Puerto Rican 65th Infantry.
🤍The LGBTQ+ service members.
🤍Native American veterans.
🤍Latino and Tejano soldiers.
🤍The immigrant soldiers who fought for citizenship they hadn’t yet been granted.
🤍The medics, engineers, translators, and chaplains.
🤍And all others who have yet to be name.

Thank you.

To our club members who have served, thank you for your service and thank you for the service you give in putting kindness back into the world and our community, through projects, commitment and donations by being in our club.

And, to all who have served and sacrificed - we honor you today and all the days. We’re thankful this Memorial Day for the freedoms we have.

We serve (through kindness) because others sacrificed.

Feature Friday: Kenzie Perdue ✨

Hi, I’m Kenzie and yes, I run our social media, so this is either going to be great or deeply awkward. Probably both. 😅

👩🏽‍💼 What I do: I work for a law firm here in Durango that does mostly criminal defense. However, I’ve touched pretty much every area of law: criminal defense, civil litigation, real estate, estate planning, land use, you name it. I got my start at a beloved Durango firm where I worked alongside five attorneys and assisted on cases that made it to the Colorado Supreme Court and Colorado Court of Appeals, federal court, administrative and regulatory matters across all 22 Colorado jurisdictions, & even Southern Ute Tribal Court. Before landing at the firm I’m at now, I clerked for the Honorable Judge R. Stewart in the 6th Judicial District, served as a Public Information Officer for a local LE agency, and somehow also became the person everyone calls when something complicated needs to get done. Still figuring out how that happened. 🤷‍♀️

💪Why Rotary: It started when I was in highschool. I attended RYLA, a leadership rotary conference. I became a counselor, Senior Counselor, then Co-Chair, Rotaract President, then club President and somewhere along the way Rotary just quietly became who I am. In Rotary, I’ve seen a little boy choose pajamas over toys at a Christmas shopping spree because he just wanted to fit in at school pajama day…I’ve never been the same since. I’ve watched a shy conferee who didn’t speak, find their voice and now speaks to huge crowds. I’ve watched a firewood recipient who didn’t have family get folded into a Rotarian’s family at the holidays…yup, we were all in tears. I’ve helped Fort Lewis students build a Rotaract club from nothing, just so they could show up, have fun and give back to their community - no agenda attached. Rotary isn’t one thing - it’s the avenue for anyone and everyone who wants to meet the world’s hard with laughter, goodness, and connection. I can’t imagine my life without it.

🔥Fun facts: Sunday is my 30th bday. And yes, I made a kangaroo video of DPD officers go viral & the world was better for it, IMHO. After I left, I decided other worthwhile content should be shared & now I help businesses! 😍

Join us - Thursdays. You should be here.

Event Update on 5/13: Welllllll Public Safety has to come first! We have had to move this to later this summer! So Thursday’s presentation has CHANGED.

______________

🔈Thursday Speaker/Event: 10+ Years of Saying Thank-You

For more than a decade, Durango High Noon Rotary has proudly honored the Colorado State Patrol Trooper of the Year, recognizing the men and women who answer the call on some of Southwest Colorado’s toughest roads and hardest days. Join us Thursday at noon at the Elks Club (downstairs) as we celebrate this year’s honoree. 💙

💔Check out the statistic on our flyer - in 2024 alone, CSP is responsible for investigating every FATAL car accident. There were 700+ alone that year. Can you imagine that impact?

🫶🏼 Did you know each Rotary club recognizes a different law enforcement agency each year? It’s one small way our community ensures those who serve it are seen, appreciated, and supported.

The world may debate law enforcement. We simply choose to show up for the people behind the badge and recognize something that is just a job to them, but to us, we know there’s people behind that badge who choose to honor and serve.

You don’t have to be a member to join us for these meetings. Anyone is welcome. Families, friends, other LE partners. Join us, see what good we do - and how you could be apart of it. Help us

See you Thursday at High Noon, Durango.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and last week as we heard from our Youth Exchange students. 🌎🤍

Youth Exchange is about so much more than travel…it’s about connection, perspective, growth, and creating lifelong friendships across the world. Watching our students share their stories, adventures, challenges, and memories from this past year was incredibly special.

We’ve received so much heartfelt and fun feedback about the meeting last Thursday, and we’re so grateful our community showed up so strongly to support these students and the impact.

Thank you, for helping make Durango feel like home for these two - from the moment they arrived, through host families, schooling, experiences and what will be their last few weeks before they head back to their respective home countries 💛

Some of you have asked what else is coming through for our speakers this week and upcoming! Keep an eye out tomorrow for our Thursday speaker/event! 👀 .

Feature Friday (a day late) - Roberta Coates ✨

Well ya know…9-5’s really take us away from posting on time. So, a day late for our feature Friday but say, hello to a very treasured member of our club, Roberta! A retired Circuit Court Judge, full-time lover of people, mountains, and fur babies. ⚖️

👩🏽‍⚖️ What she does: After a career on the bench in Wyoming, Roberta has earned the right to do whatever she wants and she’s choosing to spend it giving back. .

❤️ What matters to her: Family, her pets 🐾, and getting outside to ski, bike, and hike…because the mountains help us reconnect to ourselves once we abandon our full time jobs. She also just genuinely likes people, which honestly? Refreshing.

💪 Why Rotary: She’s been in the Rotary family for over 30 years - she recently joined our club to continue to be involved and has seen firsthand how exchange programs change lives and how our projects move the needle at home and around the world. She comes for the impact and stays for the camaraderie. (Same, Roberta. Same.)

🔥 Fun fact: She genuinely believes we can make this world a better place and between a career serving justice and her years with Rotary, she’s got the receipts to back it up.

This is the kind of person you meet when you show up on a Thursday. You should be here. Join us and come meet fantastic members like Roberta.

Did you catch that, Durango? $42,500 is being awarded this year to students… and a whole lot of futures just got a head start. 🎓✨

From welders to nurses, certificates to college degrees…we’re proud to support students chasing all kinds of paths.

Huge shoutout to our scholarship committee (seriously… that’s no small task) and to our community for showing up to every fundraiser and making this possible year after year. Congratulations to this years recipients! We’re excited to notify them that we’re here backing their futures!

Wanna be part of something that actually makes a difference? Yeah… we saved you a seat. You should be here💛
