You now have until August 5th to submit a comment that helps determine where over-snow vehicle use is allowed across the massive 1.8-million-acre forest, shaping winter recreation opportunities on the Rio Grande for decades to come.

Thank you, Congressman Joe Neguse and Senator Ben Ray Luján, for introducing the LOCAL Input Act, which protects Americans’ right to a meaningful say on how oil and gas resources are managed on public lands.

The BLM is leasing hundreds of thousands of acres across Colorado, including new leases proposed in the HD Mountains near Chimney Rock National Monument, while stripping away protections around Chaco Culture National Historic Park.

For decades, local communities, hunters, anglers, ranchers, and landowners had a seat at the table on leasing decisions, and the BLM could defer leases in response to conflicts. But new leasing requirements in 2025 took that away.

The LOCAL Input Act would restore the BLM’s authority to defer oil and gas leases in response to local concerns like water impacts, cultural values, wildlife habitat, and conflicts with private lands.
