SAN JUAN SYMPHONY YOUNG ARTIST COMPETITION
Registration Deadline October 1st, 2026

As a new feature in Season 41, we are thrilled to announce the first-ever SJS Young Artist Competition.

The SJS Young Artist Competition showcases instrumental music students from across the Four Corners region. Featuring Junior (ages 10–15) and Senior (ages 15–22) Divisions, the competition offers students an opportunity to perform in a live Finalists Recital, with the Senior Division winner earning a debut performance live with the San Juan Symphony in concert.

Whether you’re stepping into the spotlight for the first time or ready for a major performance opportunity, we want to hear you!

BEYOND THE CONCERT HALL PRESENTS: AN OCTET FOR ALL AGES

The San Juan Symphony launches its celebrated Chamber Music Series with a concert called “An Octet for All Ages,” coming up on Friday, September 11th at 7:00pm in St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Durango, and again on Saturday, September 12th at 2:00pm in the Connie Gotsch Theater at San Juan College in Farmington.

Featuring violinists Lauren Avery and Tennille Taylor, violists Karl Winkler and Andrew Picken, and cellist Katherine Jetter performing the music of Mozart and Ralph Vaughan Williams.

The SJS musicians will also be joined by 3 local student musicians to perform the beloved Octet for Strings by Felix Mendelssohn- violinists Alex Chasse & Joel Newman and cellist Johanna Shaffer.

Don't miss this one of a kind kick off to Season 41 celebrating another great year of Chamber Music to come!
