Girls Empowered empowers girls by providing them with the knowledge, skills, confidence, and resources to stand up for oneself and make positive decisions.

Dawn H. Haaz.Psy.D., Licensed Psychologist is the Founder and CEO of Girls Empowered, Inc. Dr. Haaz started Girls Empowered to EMPOWER girls by providing them with the knowledge, skills, confidence, and resources to stand up for oneself, make positive choices, and be in control of one's future. The organization started with offering Camp Girl Power, an empowerment camp for pre-teen girls during the summer. Girls Empowered, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, now provides customized empowerment programs and workshop for girls from elementary through high school throughout the year. The organization is also available to provide presentations for parents, educators, and professionals to help empower girls in the community.

We had a great time celebrating Daughter's Day with a Mother-Daughter event at Painting with a Twist. Thank you to Newtown Rotary Club for sponsoring the event and Fusion Academy Warrington for sponsoring the delicious snacks. Also, thank you to Lauren Weinberg, Psychologist and National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach, for being our presenting speaker. She helped the moms and daughters in attendance connect not only with each other but just as importantly with themselves.

Happy National Hispanic Heritage Month! This special holiday began its first official celebration in 1968, as a week-long recognition. However, in 1988, it was expanded to a month-long commemoration. Now, we celebrate Hispanic History Month from September 15th-October 15th annually. This particular month marks the start of the Mexican War of Independence, as well as other important independence dates for Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. It serves as a wonderful opportunity to recognize and celebrate the history, culture, and beautiful contributions of the Hispanic community. Hispanic women such as Sonia Sotomayor, the first Hispanic Supreme Court Justice of the US, Dolores Huerta, a civil rights and labor activist, and Ellen Ochoa, the first Hispanic woman in space, have trail-blazed the way, showing us that EMPOWERED women are capable of great feats!

With gratitude, we share an important transition in the Girls Empowered story.

After years of visionary leadership and unwavering dedication, our Founder and CEO, Dr. Dawn Haaz, is stepping down at the end of 2026 from her current role to dedicate more time to other personal and professional endeavors. We are grateful Dawn will be continuing to lend her expertise as Board President.

Dawn poured her heart into creating an organization where girls can develop confidence, resilience, and the belief that they can achieve anything. Because of her vision and tireless commitment, countless lives have been empowered—and her legacy will continue to shape the lives of young women for years to come.

On behalf of our Board of Directors and the entire Girls Empowered community: thank you, Dawn. We are deeply grateful for everything you have given to this mission and excited for you as you begin your next chapter.
