👩🏾‍🌾Join us TOMORROW for our End-of-Season Garden Class! As the growing season winds down, we invite you to this garden class focused on preparing your garden for the months ahead.

WHEN: Wednesday, October 14 from 5-7p

We’ll explore season extension techniques for fall crops, late-fall planting of overwintering crops like garlic, and practical ways to put your garden to bed before winter arrives. We’ll also look ahead and discuss simple steps you can take now to set your garden up for a successful growing season next year.

👩🏾‍🌾Fall is here and the growing season is starting to wind down. Growers depend on late-season sales to sustain them over the winter months. Every dollar you spend at one of the 7 Grown in Detroit Honor Systems Stands is a huge support to local growers. We had an amazing group of early educators, staff, and family members excited to work with us. Having smaller shovels, buckets, and wheelbarrows available allows children the opportunity to confidently and safely work alongside adults. ✌🏾2 ways to help us get ready for the KGD Annual Celebration!

Join fellow Garden Resource Program members as we celebrate another season of growing with the Keep Growing Detroit community! Our Annual Celebration is a chance to reconnect, share stories, recognize our growers, and celebrate everything we accomplished together in 2026.

🌱 Bring Seeds to Share! - This year, we’re putting a special focus on saving and sharing seeds grown right here in our gardens. Earlier in the season, we encouraged GRP members to save marigold and calendula seeds, but we’d love for you to bring seeds from other flowers, vegetables, herbs, and culturally important crops you grew and saved, too! Please label all seeds with the name, variety (if known), month/year harvested, and farm/garden name and city. Bring your labeled seeds to the celebration and help us grow a community seed share that can continue making its way into Detroit-area gardens next season. The seed share table is open to anyone, whether you bring seeds or not. We share saved seeds and donated seeds. Some seeds may be older but are still viable from previous years. There are limited quantities of some seeds, and it is first come, first served.

📸 Share Your Best Garden Photos! - Email your favorite 2026 gardening photos to [email protected] with CELEBRATION PHOTO GALLERY in the subject line. Selected photos will be displayed at the annual celebration.
And, of course, we’ll have some of our favorite Annual Celebration traditions, including the 2026 KGD Report, Paper Plate Awards, and great food featuring produce grown at the KGD Farm and by Grown in Detroit growers.

Save the date (RSVP link and location info coming soon) and celebrate the season with us! We can’t wait to gather with our community, share seeds and stories, recognize another year of growing, and get inspired for the next growing season.

🌺Come by tomorrow from 10a-1p to KGD Farm, 3100 Orleans, for the Keep Growing Detroit and Friends of the Rouge‘s 5th Annual Fall Native Plant Market! Shop for native plants at a farmer’s market style gathering of Michigan native plant producers. 11 vendors (including KGD Farm!) will have a variety of native plants including perennial flowers, shrubs and trees! This event is free and open to the public.

This month is full of lots of treats, and the trick is how to make time for it all! The growing season is winding down. So we’re focusing on putting gardens to bed, preserving the harvest, and getting ready for the next season. Hope to see you at the market, the farm, a class, or at a community garden!

🍂It’s the last month for Volunteer Hours at KGD Farm! October marks the shift for volunteering at the farm, 3100 Orleans, to Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-6p. Come lend a hand as we begin the end of season maintenance and fall harvesting. No need to RSVP or have prior experience. Perfect for individuals and small groups. Kids are welcome, too, with their adults!

This month also marks the time to say THANK YOU for all the hard work you all put in this year. Save the date for an Appreciation Celebration Volunteer Hours on Thursday, October 29 from 4-6p
