We are on a mission to connect people, establish partnerships, and provide resources in support of those affected by crimes of violence and discrimination. OBJECTIVES:

CONNECT

To connect individuals and families who have suffered acts of violence and discrimination with compassionate and caring people to support and mentor them through the healing processes
To connect individuals and families who have suffered violence with information, support groups, counseling services, financial resources, and other resources to assist them in their area of concern
To connect individuals in potentially violent or fatal situations with outreach professionals who can guide them toward preventative measures to reduce the risk of harm

PARTNER

To partner with local businesses, organizations, schools/universities, and foundations to affect change in our communities
To partner with donors who want to take a stand against crimes of violence and discrimination and secure donations to carry out the mission of our organization. To parter with victims and advocates to create a community that is welcoming and healing and provides a sense of belonging. PROVIDE

To provide extensive resources related to Crimes of Violence & Discrimination, and ensure that there is one centralized resource on which to depend for all associated information. To provide a platform for those who have experienced acts of violence and discrimination to share their stories and experiences
To provide educational scholarships and financial assistance to children who have lost a parent through acts of violence

Grief isn’t linear, and it doesn’t look the same for everyone. From the initial shock that leaves you numb and disoriented, to the denial that follows as you try to make sense of a loss you can’t quite grasp. Anger rises as you ask “why me?” and “why now?”—questions that may never have answers. Bargaining takes over, wishing you could trade places or turn back time. Depression sets in as the weight of it all becomes unbearable, leaving you feeling like you’re drowning.

Then, slowly, comes testing—where you start to search for meaning or glimpse hope in small, unexpected places. Finally, acceptance arrives—not as an end, but as a soft surrender to the reality that life continues, even when it feels impossible.

Grief isn’t something you “get over,” but something you learn to live with, day by day. It’s messy, unpredictable, and deeply personal, but it’s part of the healing process. It’s okay to feel all of it. You are not alone.

A social determinant of health (SDH) refers to the conditions in which people are born, grow, live, work, and age—things like access to healthcare, education, housing, and employment. These factors play a critical role in shaping our health outcomes, often more so than genetics or individual behavior. 🌍

One of the most significant yet often overlooked social determinants is discrimination. Discrimination—whether based on race, gender, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, or disability—creates barriers that prevent people from accessing resources, opportunities, and care. This systemic inequality has real consequences for both physical and mental health. 💔

Here’s how discrimination works as an SDH:

🔹 Chronic Stress: Experiencing discrimination increases stress hormones, which can contribute to heart disease, high blood pressure, and other chronic health issues.
🔹 Mental Health Impact: Constant bias and marginalization can lead to anxiety, depression, and other mental health challenges.
🔹 Barriers to Care: Discriminatory practices in healthcare, education, and employment limit access to essential services and resources that promote good health.

Addressing discrimination as a social determinant of health is essential for creating equitable, healthier communities for everyone. Let’s work towards a future where health equity is the standard, not the exception. 🌿💙

Today, on Martin Luther King Jr. Day 2025, we reflect on the profound impact Dr. King’s legacy has had on our nation and the world. A visionary leader who stood for equality, justice, and love, Dr. King’s words and actions continue to inspire movements for social change across the globe.

In his iconic ‘I Have a Dream’ speech, delivered in 1963, Dr. King called for a world where people are judged by the content of their character, not the color of their skin. His commitment to nonviolence and peaceful resistance was revolutionary, leading to monumental changes in the Civil Rights Movement and the eventual passage of key legislation like the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

As we honor his legacy today, it’s important to recognize that his work is far from complete. In 2025, we still face challenges related to racial injustice, inequality, and discrimination. But Dr. King’s message remains a powerful reminder that change is possible when we come together with purpose, empathy, and courage.

Amid the turbulence of January 2025, with a new president taking office, ongoing global conflicts, and the devastating effects of climate change like wildfires and natural disasters, Dr. King’s message of peace, unity, and acceptance feels more crucial than ever. In a time of division and uncertainty, his call for nonviolent resistance and compassion for all people serves as a guiding light. It’s a reminder that, despite the challenges we face, we have the power to build a more just and harmonious world through understanding, empathy, and collective action. Now, more than ever, we must come together to promote peace and dignity for all, just as Dr. King envisioned.

Let us take this day not just as a moment of reflection, but as a call to action. What steps can we take, in our own communities and beyond, to carry forward Dr. King’s dream of a world where justice and equality are the birthright of every person!

While there is real value in setting new goals, creating new routines, and breaking bad habits, t’s also important to take care of your mental health. That starts by being kind to yourself and recognizing when you need a break. Here are some strategies to help manage the stress of increased expectations:

1. Set Realistic Expectations: 🎯 Don’t try to do it all. It’s okay to scale back on traditions, shopping, and social obligations if it helps reduce your stress. Focus on what really matters to you and your loved ones.

2. Prioritize Self-Care: 🛀 Make sure you schedule
regular breaks to rest and recharge. Whether it’s taking a walk, soaking in a warm bath, or reading your favorite book, taking time for yourself is crucial.

3. Stay Active: 🏃‍♀️ Exercise is one of the most effective ways to reduce stress and improve mood. A quick walk or yoga session can help release built-up tension and keep your energy up.

4. Reach Out for Support: 🤝 If you’re feeling overwhelmed, talk to someone you trust—whether it’s a friend, family member, or therapist. Sometimes just sharing how you’re feeling can lighten the load.

5. Be Kind to Yourself: 💖 The holidays don’t have to be perfect. Embrace imperfections and forgive yourself if things don’t go as planned. Self-compassion can go a long way in reducing stress.

6. Limit Social Media: 📱 If scrolling through social media adds to your stress, take breaks or limit your time on these platforms. Remember that what you see is often a curated version of reality.

7. Focus on What You Can Control: 🔒 You can’t control everything, but you can control your response. If you’re facing a stressful family gathering, for example, think about how you can approach it with patience and boundaries.

8. Practice Mindfulness: 🧘‍♂️ Techniques like deep breathing, meditation, or mindfulness exercises can help you stay grounded and focused, especially when you’re feeling anxious or overwhelmed.

January does not have to be perfect to be meaningful. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, it’s okay to take a step back, adjust boundaries, and seek support. Give your mental health as much attention as you give to your newly expanded to-do list.

The holiday season can be a difficult time for many, with an increase in domestic violence 🚨 and su***de risk 💔. The pressure to be joyful, coupled with financial strain 💸, family tension 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦, and unrealistic expectations 🎄, can escalate underlying issues for some individuals.

For many, the holidays are a time of heightened stress, and unfortunately, that can lead to an increase in domestic violence cases. Shelters often report a surge in demand during this time, as victims of abuse face added isolation 😔, emotional strain 💔, and sometimes even the pressure to “keep up appearances” during family gatherings. The holidays can also trigger or worsen suicidal thoughts 💭.
