It is with heavy hearts, yet with the joyful hope we have in Jesus Christ, that we announce that Pastor Mark Stevens went to be with Jesus on Friday, October 9, 2026.
In 2000, Mark and Cindi moved into the inner city of Dayton, answering God's call to reach the poor and homeless. Together, they built Target Dayton into a place where thousands have experienced not only a warm meal, clothing, and practical assistance, but something far greater: the life-changing love and message of Jesus Christ.
Pastor Mark was a man of extraordinary faith, unwavering conviction, and boundless enthusiasm for the Gospel. Following the example of Jesus in Mark 1:35, he began each morning in prayer, seeking the Lord before the demands of the day. Whether preaching with his unmistakable energy, using an outrageous skit or prop to illustrate a biblical truth, or personally ministering to someone the world had overlooked, his heart was always the same: to make the Gospel simple enough for anyone to understand, yet powerful enough to transform a life.
He believed with every fiber of his being that Jesus Christ could set anyone free from the power of sin, regardless of their past or present circumstances. His life's mission could be summed up in the words he so often proclaimed:
"Nothing to do but save souls!"
His earthly work is finished, but the mission he gave his life to is far from over. The vision God placed on his heart continues, and Target Dayton remains committed to reaching the lost, loving the forgotten, and sharing the hope of Jesus with our city and beyond.
We invite you to join us as we celebrate his life, honor his legacy, and give thanks to God for a life wholly devoted to reaching others with the love of Jesus Christ.

"For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time has come for my departure. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness"
— 2 Timothy 4:6–8a
