This small brown bird with an effervescent voice is the Northern House Wren. You can see and hear the Northern House Wren in almost any brushy area between grasslands and woodlands. Its call is so loud and insistent—that it’s hard to believe such a small bird is making it!

The Northern House Wren breeds at Aullwood and is a summer resident, leaving Ohio in September/October to spend the colder winter months in the southern United States and Mexico.

We wanted to thank everyone for their interest in the Aullwood Holiday Art Fair!

Due to a high volume of responses, we have closed the application early.

Our team is currently reviewing vendor applications that were submitted. We will be reaching out with the next steps to those that applied in late September, so stay tuned!

🌕 STURGEON MOON HIKE TONIGHT 🌕

We still have spaces available for our after-hours Sturgeon Moon Hike tonight. Join one of our naturalists for a hike between 8:30pm and 10:00pm to view the full moon and spot some of local nocturnal wildlife!

Why is it called a Sturgeon Moon: In August, the full moon is named after the sturgeon, a large freshwater fish that lives in the Great Lakes and was the food source for many of the peoples who have lived in Ohio for thousands of years. During this time of year, the giant lake sturgeon in the Great Lakes were more easily caught!

Meet the Great Crested Flycatcher! This flycatcher is heard more than seen along Warbler Way, in the Sugarbush and Wet Woods of Aullwood Audubon.

Fun Fact: The Great Crested Flycatcher breeds at Aullwood and spends its winters in the tropics.

🌱 What’s Happening at the Farm? 🌱

Exciting changes are underway at the Aullwood Farm! Thanks to a generous grant from the The Garden Club of Dayton Aullwood is replacing our former Farm Garden with a new Accessible Children’s Garden.

Designed with raised planting beds and wide, accessible pathways, the garden will provide a welcoming space for members, visitors, volunteers, and families using mobility aids, strollers, or wagons. This new garden will create opportunities for even more people to connect with nature and experience the joy of gardening.
Construction is underway, with completion anticipated in Spring 2027. This work will not impact your experience as visitors.

Deeply Rooted Landscapes is popping up at Aullwood Audubon Farm with a native plant nursery during the month of September and we couldn’t be more excited!

Mark your calendars! Deeply Rooted Landscapes Native Plant Pop-Up is coming to the Aullwood Farm on Septmber 2nd through September 30th.

As a reminder, while there is no admission charge to visit the pop-up, visitors still need to pay admission to see the trolls and to explore the Aullwood Trails and Farm.
