Putnam County Rescue Squad The Putnam County Rescue Squad is a 501c3 Non-Profit Organization. We operate with around 65 100% volunteer members. We run approximately 2,000 calls per year.

The Putnam County Rescue Squad is currently comprised of 65 volunteer members, including 4 of whom serve in the officers positions. The squad prides itself in remaining a 100% volunteer agency. Our members receive monetary compensation for the time they volunteer to serve their community by hours of training and the calls they run per year.

Rescue Response at Burgess Falls State Park

Members of the Putnam County Rescue Squad responded today to to assist with an injured subject at the base of the Top Falls.

Our Rope Rescue Team worked alongside Tennessee State Parks and Sparta-White County Volunteer Rescue Squad to safely bring the subject from the falls area to a waiting ambulance for further medical care.

This response is another great example of the importance of teamwork and cooperation between local rescue agencies and our state park partners. When an emergency happens, working together allows us to safely and efficiently help those in need.

We appreciate the dedication of everyone involved in today’s response and the continued partnership between Putnam County Rescue Squad, Tennessee State Parks, and Sparta-White County Volunteer Rescue Squad.

A special thank you to the dedicated members of the Putnam County Rescue Squad who took time away from their families to attend our Basic Rope Operations training.

Our volunteers make countless sacrifices behind the scenes that often go unnoticed. Every hour spent training is an hour away from loved ones, but they continue to invest that time because they are committed to being ready when our community needs them most.

Continuous training is essential to ensuring we have the knowledge, skills, and teamwork necessary to respond safely and effectively to emergencies. The time and dedication our members put into training today could make all the difference during tomorrow’s emergency.

A Heartfelt Thank You

The members of the Putnam County Rescue Squad would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the generous individual who anonymously donated equipment and hardware to our organization.

Your incredible generosity has provided our team with much-needed rope rescue equipment, along with tools and hardware that will support our members during training and emergency responses every day. Your gift is an investment in the safety of our responders and, more importantly, in the safety of the citizens and visitors we are privileged to serve.

We also want to thank Chief John Mackie and the Monterey Police Department for thinking of our organization when the opportunity arose to bless another public safety agency in Putnam County. Your support and partnership are greatly appreciated.

As we gather with family and friends to celebrate America's 250th birthday, let's honor the spirit of freedom and resilience that defines our great nation.

​While we enjoy the festivities, your safety is our top priority. The Putnam County Rescue Squad reminds everyone to celebrate responsibly:

​ Fireworks Safety: Attend public displays. If you must use consumer fireworks, follow all local laws and safety guidelines. Keep water nearby.

Drive Sober: Never drink and drive. Designate a driver or use a rideshare service.

Stay Hydrated & Be Sun Smart: Heat-related issues are common during outdoor activities. Drink plenty of water, use sunscreen, and take breaks in the shade.

Water Safety: Supervise children constantly near water. Wear life jackets.

MUTUAL AID RESPONSE: Helping Our Neighbors 🚨

​When a neighboring community is in trouble, county lines disappear. Yesterday, members of the Putnam County Rescue Squad’s Swiftwater Rescue Team deployed north into Pickett County to assist our neighbors stranded by rapidly rising floodwaters in the Moodyville community.

​Thanks to the swift action, specialized training, and sheer dedication of our technicians, we are incredibly relieved to report that 7 community members and 3 very brave dogs were safely evacuated and brought to dry land. All human and four-legged occupants are safe, uninjured, and accounted for.

​We always say that first responders are one big family, and yesterday was a perfect example of that. Our team is ready year-round not just to protect Putnam County, but to ensure that when our regional neighbors call for help, we can answer with the highest level of professionalism and technical skill. We couldn't be prouder of their courage on the water.

​A huge thank you to the Pickett County dispatchers, local emergency management, and the first responders on the ground who welcomed us in to help with this successful operation. To our neighbors in Moodyville and Pickett County—we’ve got your back, anytime and anywhere.

Community Helpers Week at Little Acorn Academy

We had a great time visiting Little Acorn Academy during Community Helpers Week!

Our team enjoyed showing the kids the important role rescue personnel play in keeping our community safe. They had the opportunity to see a rescue vehicle up close, learn about some of the equipment we use, and ask questions about how we help people in times of need.

Experiences like these are so important—they help children understand how different agencies work together to serve and protect our community, while also reducing fear and building confidence around emergency responders.

Thank you to Little Acorn Academy for inviting us and giving us the opportunity to share what the Rescue Squad does.

Today, the Putnam County Rescue Squad Swift Water Team had the opportunity to visit the YMCA Summer Camp to talk about water safety.

We covered important safety tips for pools, lakes, rivers, and even the ocean—helping kids understand how to stay safe in and around the water.

The campers also got a hands-on look at some of the specialized equipment we use during water rescue operations, giving them a better understanding of how we respond to emergencies.

We appreciate the YMCA for inviting us out today and giving us the chance to connect with the community and share this important information!
