Community Helpers Week at Little Acorn Academy

We had a great time visiting Little Acorn Academy during Community Helpers Week!

Our team enjoyed showing the kids the important role rescue personnel play in keeping our community safe. They had the opportunity to see a rescue vehicle up close, learn about some of the equipment we use, and ask questions about how we help people in times of need.

Experiences like these are so important—they help children understand how different agencies work together to serve and protect our community, while also reducing fear and building confidence around emergency responders.

Thank you to Little Acorn Academy for inviting us and giving us the opportunity to share what the Rescue Squad does.

It was truly a privilege to spend time with such a great group of kids!

Today, the Putnam County Rescue Squad Swift Water Team had the opportunity to visit the YMCA Summer Camp to talk about water safety.

We covered important safety tips for pools, lakes, rivers, and even the ocean—helping kids understand how to stay safe in and around the water.

The campers also got a hands-on look at some of the specialized equipment we use during water rescue operations, giving them a better understanding of how we respond to emergencies.

We appreciate the YMCA for inviting us out today and giving us the chance to connect with the community and share this important information!

A successful rescue and a happy ending!
Earlier today, the Putnam County Rescue Squad Swiftwater Rescue Team and Rope Rescue Team responded to Cane Creek to assist with the rescue of a 4-day-old calf that had become trapped along the creek bank.

Working together, rescuers utilized specialized swiftwater and rope rescue techniques to safely access, secure, and remove the calf from the hazardous area. Thanks to the teamwork, training, and dedication of everyone involved, the young calf was successfully reunited with its owner without injury.

We are grateful for the opportunity to serve our community—whether the call is for a person or an animal in need. Great job to all personnel who assisted in this rescue!

Today, the members of the Putnam County Rescue Squad pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.

​While our daily mission is to protect and serve our local community, today we look back with profound gratitude at those who gave everything to protect our country. Their courage, dedication, and selflessness will never be forgotten.

​We wish everyone in Putnam County a safe and meaningful Memorial Day. As you spend time with family and friends today, please join us in keeping the fallen and their families in your thoughts.

Over the last several weeks, we have been holding our New Member Orientation.

This orientation helps new members gain the basic knowledge they need to begin as probationary members. During this time, they were introduced to the history of the Rescue Squad, call response procedures, scene etiquette, radio etiquette, bloodborne pathogens, extrication, and Emergency Vehicle Operations.

We are proud to welcome these new members and are confident they will be a great asset to the Rescue Squad and to Putnam County!

Putnam County Rescue Squad, along with Putnam County EMS and the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department, had the privilege of speaking with the Pre-K, Kindergarten, and First Grade classes at Algood Elementary School today.

We enjoyed showing the students how all of our agencies work together during different emergency scenarios and demonstrating some of the tools and equipment we use to help people in times of need.

Thank you to Algood Elementary for allowing us the opportunity to spend time with these amazing students!

Honoring March 3rd: A Day of Remembrance for Putnam County

​Six years ago, our community was changed by the severe weather of March 3rd, 2020. Tonight, the Putnam County Rescue Squad joins our neighbors in reflecting on the events of that day and the loss our county experienced.

​A Community United

​We will never forget the friends, family, and neighbors we lost. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with their families on this anniversary.

​We also remember the extraordinary outpouring of support that defined our recovery. In the aftermath of the storm, we saw first-hand the true character of Putnam County: neighbors checking on neighbors, volunteers arriving to help clean up debris, and first responders and medical teams working with dedication.

​While the storm leaves a mark on our history, it also revealed the enduring strength of our community. We are grateful to everyone who helped us move forward, together.

​Looking Ahead

​As we honor the memory of that day, we also reaffirm our commitment to serving you. The Putnam County Rescue Squad remains prepared and dedicated to our mission of keeping this community safe.

​We encourage all residents to use this time to review their family severe weather plans and preparedness kits. We are stronger, together.
