Lithium is a sweet, humble 1-year-old German Shepherd/Hound mix weighing 49 lbs. After raising 7 puppies of her own, she’s ready for a loving home where she can finally be the one receiving all the care and attention. The shelter is a very scary place for her, and she often trembles when things get loud, but with gentle reassurance she begins to relax and show her kind nature. Lithium is looking for a patient family who will help her build confidence and discover that the world can be a safe and happy place. ❤️🐾

This sweet, neutered boy is house-trained, loves car rides, and gets along great with dogs, livestock, and children. Draven is looking for an active family to share adventures and make new memories with. Thanks to a generous donor, his adoption fee is only $40. 🌟 Employee Spotlight: Matthew Mateyka 🌟

Meet Matthew Mateyka, Kennel Worker II at the Cookeville-Putnam County Animal Shelter!

Matthew has served the City of Cookeville for nearly 15 years and plays a vital role in the shelter's daily operations. From caring for animals and administering medications to handling maintenance and inventory, he helps keep the shelter running smoothly every day.

His favorite part of the job? Adoptions. Matthew enjoys helping families find the perfect pet and giving animals a chance to find their forever homes.

Originally born in Germany while his parents were serving in the military, Matthew later settled in Cookeville and earned a Biology degree from Tennessee Tech University. Outside of work, he enjoys gaming and spending time with his corgi and cats. Although he once thought he was a cat person, his first shelter adoption ended up being a corgi!

Matthew encourages everyone to adopt when possible and remember the importance of spaying and neutering your pets.

🩷Hi , remember me? It’s Cookie. I am still waiting at the shelter for someone to give me a chance.🩷

Sweet Cookie has had a hard time since arriving at the shelter with her sibling on March 26. After Ice Cream was adopted, Cookie was left alone in her kennel and has become shy and a little scared without her best friend by her side. At just 10 months old and 32 pounds, she is great with children, gets along well with other dogs, and loves walks and outdoor play. She may hide at first, but with a little patience she quickly warms up and seeks affection. Cookie is wondering why everyone keeps passing her by. Her sponsored adoption fee is only $70—please give this sweet girl the loving home she deserves. 🐾❤️

🐶Meet sweet Sadie and her best buddy, Smokey! 🐾 Sadie is a lovable 9-year-old Beagle mix weighing 29 lbs who recently returned to the shelter with her companion, Smokey, after their family welcomed a new baby with dog allergies. Sadie is wonderful with children, enjoys the company of her pal Smokey, and is a proud former CPCAS alum looking for her forever home once again. She can be selective about other dogs and prefers not to be restrained, but she has plenty of love to give. Smokey, a handsome 4-year-old , male, Beagle weighing 27 lbs, is great with kids and loves chasing tennis balls—though he firmly believes the humans should do the retrieving! 🎾 These two adorable hounds would love a chance to start their next chapter with a caring family. 💥For more information, please contact the shelter at 931-526-3647. ❤️🐶🐶💥
