You Asked, and We Delivered! Library Construction Update!

We know everyone has been eager to see how construction is coming along at the Putnam County Library, and we're excited to share some updates with you.

First Picture: A Fresh New Look!
Our library's exterior is getting a makeover! With a beautiful cream color and bold black trim, our building is taking on a fresh, updated appearance.

Second & Third Pictures: Elevator Access!
We're making progress on our new elevator areas! These pictures show the spaces leading to the elevators on both the upstairs and downstairs levels, helping make our library more accessible for everyone.

Last two pictures: An Expanded Children's Department!
One of the most exciting parts of this project is the expansion of our Children's Department! This new space will include:

More Room for Books! Our Easy Readers, Easy Nonfiction, and Picture Book collections will be moving into this area.📖

Cozy Reading Area! Seating underneath the windows for children and families to relax and read.🪑

Activity Table! A space for children to explore their creativity through hands-on activities.🎨

Another LEGO Wall! Even more opportunities for imagination, creativity, and play.🧱

Why are we excited about these changes?✨
Because our library is growing to better serve YOU! These improvements will create more welcoming, accessible, and engaging spaces for our community to learn, connect, and grow. We appreciate everyone's patience and support throughout construction. We can't wait for you to experience these new spaces.

🎃 Another Packed House for Story & a Craft!

We love seeing our Children's Department filled with smiling faces, creativity, and excitement! Our latest Story & a Craft was another packed house, and we couldn't be happier!

This time, we got into the spooky spirit with a fun Halloween story, followed by FOUR different Halloween crafts! The children had a wonderful time getting creative and making their own spooky masterpieces!

Programs like these are about more than just stories and crafts. They're opportunities for children to explore their imaginations, develop creativity, and build connections with others in our community.

A huge thank you to all the families who continue to make Story & a Craft such a wonderful experience! We love seeing our library filled with young learners!

🎨 What a Fun Crafternoon!

We had so much fun at our Crafternoon: Cardboard Mask Making program!

Our participants let their creativity shine as they transformed simple cardboard into unique masks inspired by their imaginations, favorite books, and spooky monsters! It was wonderful to see everyone bring their ideas to life and create something truly their own!

Programs like Crafternoon are about more than just arts and crafts. They encourage creativity, self-expression, and imagination while bringing our community together in a fun and welcoming environment. ❤️

What an Informative Lunch & Learn!

Today, we wrapped up our two-part series, Lunch & Learn: Banned Books-Challenges, Censorship, and the Library (Part 2), with our Adult Librarian, Spencer, and Library Director, Kathryn!

Following Banned Books Week, this educational discussion explored the history of banned and challenged books, what a book challenge actually means, and how our library responds when concerns are raised about materials in our collection. Spencer and Kathryn also explained the policies and procedures our library follows when handling challenges and the importance of having a clear and fair process in place.

Why is this information important? Understanding what a book challenge is, how the reconsideration process works, and how our library makes decisions about its collection helps our community become better informed about the role of public libraries. It also promotes transparency and helps patrons understand the policies and procedures we follow when concerns are raised about library materials..

These discussions are not about telling people what to think or what they should read. Instead, they are about educating our community, encouraging understanding, and providing transparency about how our library operates.

We believe that education, transparency, and open conversations are essential to building a stronger, more informed community. 💙

A huge thank you to Spencer and Kathryn for sharing their knowledge and helping our community better understand these important topics! We also want to thank everyone who attended and took the time to learn with us!

Libraries are more than just books. They are places for learning, understanding, and meaningful conversations!
