CCAO members joined Governor Mike DeWine and First Lady Fran DeWine at the 2026 First Lady's Luncheon, where the First Lady honored the late Dolly Parton and celebrated the impact of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library of Ohio.

The program now gifts books to more than 432,000 Ohio children every month, and CCAO members are proud to support its growth. 📚

Today is Constitution Day!

Before taking office, Ohio’s county elected officials take an oath to support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Ohio and to faithfully discharge the duties entrusted to them. That obligation is established in both the Ohio Constitution and state law.

For county commissioners, executives and council members that oath is more than a tradition. It is a commitment to the people they serve and to the constitutional principles that form the foundation of our system of government.

As America celebrates its 250th anniversary, Constitution Day offers an opportunity to reflect on the enduring framework of government established by our nation’s founding generation — and the responsibility each generation carries to preserve it.

Today, CCAO joins Ohio’s counties in celebrating the United States Constitution and the principles of representative government and public service it has sustained for generations.

Summit and Cuyahoga are Ohio's two counties with a charter form of government.

Honoring Clermont County’s Revolutionary War Patriots

As Ohio and the nation continue the celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, Clermont County is ensuring that the service and sacrifice of its earliest veterans are remembered for generations to come.

The Clermont County Commissioners recently joined local residents for the dedication of a new America 250-Ohio monument at Union Township Veterans Memorial Park. The granite memorial honors Revolutionary War Patriots who served in the fight for American independence and later made Clermont County their home.

Thanks to years of research by the Clermont County Genealogical Society and Clermont County Historical Society, more than 150 Revolutionary War veterans with connections to Clermont County have been identified and remembered through this effort.

As we celebrate America 250, projects like this remind us that the story of our nation can be found in the history of Ohio’s counties and in the lives of those who came before us.

Patriot Day — We Remember. We Will Never Forget.

Twenty-five years ago, September 11, 2001 forever changed our nation. Today, CCAO, CEBCO and CORSA, on behalf of Ohio’s counties, pause to remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost and honor the first responders, service members and countless Americans whose courage and sacrifice followed that tragic day.

Across Ohio’s 88 counties, we remember those we lost, honor those who answered the call to serve, and remain grateful for the strength and resolve our nation demonstrated in the days that followed.

Twenty-five years later, we still remember. We will never forget. 🇺🇸

In the Summer 2026 edition of County Leader, guest columnist Jake Dowling of the Ohio Association of County Boards takes a closer look at the important partnership between Ohio counties and county boards of developmental disabilities.

More than 117,000 Ohioans with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families rely on county boards for services that help people live, learn, work and thrive. From early intervention and family support to employment assistance and residential services, county boards have played a unique role in Ohio for nearly six decades.

Dowling highlights a locally driven system that promotes dignity, independence and inclusion while remaining closely connected and accountable to the people and families it serves.

The column also looks toward the future and the importance of a strong state-local partnership to ensure Ohioans with I/DD and their families continue receiving the services and support they need.
